So, Balo got a 1 match ban and a fine of £25,000 for the Instagram post... I was prepared for the max, so a bit pleased...

The fine was expected. I think the ban is a little BS, but he's not 100% fit anyway so I guess it's not the worst thing in the world.

I guess BR sticks with the 3-4-3 thing he's been going with lately.

my rationale for not really being upset... though I do agree its BS

Hate it for him, but I didn't really care about the fine... hopefully, they put it towards something useful..

Am I one of the very few that are still thinking Balotelli can become a threat in the near future?

Just a general question. I know a lot of people have some sort of hate/angst for him.

The way he played against Basel once he came on was actually good. He had a couple of good shots, but De Gea was having one of those nights where nobody was going to score on him.

I mean, with him and Serling finally getting a bunch of opportunities, some of them HAVE to go through, meaning he should regain confidence and form.

I still like Balo, and I'm willing to be patient with him. I especially want to see him with Studge again and/or someone else. I recall times where Luis Suarez couldn't buy a goal. He was considered to be a creator/assist machine rather than goal scorer. Then last year happened.

That's what is so frustrating to me... Seems like the team is really on the brink sometimes, but just can't get that foot to go in front of the other (at least as far as the offense goes). The defense, OTOH, is essentially in a black hole.

I would be very upset if we sold balo. With sturridge, I think he could really explode as far as production. Still remembering the spurs game.

I was thinking that earlier... I like him, but he has suffered from having to be the man without Daniel... Give him a role to play in a front 2 with Studge or another striker that he partners well with and he will get you 15-20 goals a year... When Stevie retires, he's your PK taker and right footed set piece specialist... He is still of good value at £16mm.. And I don't think he's been a bad character person since he's been here..

TBH, Ive said it before, I like most of our players that we bought... The only bust I can think of right now is Lovren and who knows, you get a strong DM to sit in front of him and a season under his belt and he may end up being a solid contributor (though I'm not holding my breath)... I also think we overpaid for Lallana in a position that we were strong at...

My main problem is that we didn't buy the experienced players we needed, in positions of need...

I do think the committee put a bit too much stock in Mignolet, and dropped the ball COMPLETELY on the DM.

As far as Lallana goes, he has been playing decently enough that I don't mind the fact that we overpaid him.

I'd have rather spent the £25mm on a DM... or even a GK (temp Tottenham for Lloris) though you probably wouldn't have needed that much...

I like Llana as a player, but its almost as BR pegged him to be the "Suarez" replacement, so to speak... not like for like, mind you.. All that said, I think he will do just fine for us, though I think LM has more upside...

If Lallana had pace, he would be that much more effective. But I think he's looked and fit better with us playing more of a creative and attacking front 3

I am 100% in favor of any pairing up front, but I think Markovic, Sterling, and Balo should be the front 3 until Studge returns. Markovic should never see the bench IMO. Way too much pace and creativity to be leaving the pitch.

I think Markovic has earned some more PT in weekend games right now. And plus, if we can start the interchanging movement again, he'll be center at times to. I think his touch is lacking still, but we just really need the movement and quickness.

we destroyed Arsenal last year with speed and incisiveness. We need Sterling up top this week and Lazar on the field somewhere too.

once he starts running with the ball, his pace is deadly on a counter... and that pass to Balo was inch perfect...

Looks like Origi will be coming in early in Jan. Its a shame it will cost €6m for a guy we already own, but it could help our striker problem. It would be good for him to get a feel for the league before 2015/16.

I kinda think he's be better off at Lille getting minutes... Not sure he's quite ready for the prem, as he's struggling a bit for form in Ligue 1.. especially if we have to dole out any more cash to get him... I know Im probably in the minority here..

Valid points, but I'm not so sure Lille even have the personnel for him to regain his form. I could be wrong; I know very little about Lille. I also think he's assured minutes for Liverpool at this point given our striker situation. Especially if Borini is gone in Jan (which I think he is), and the fact that Sturridge cannot be relied upon. And while he's probably not ready for the premier league, I think we could benefit from getting acclimated to the team early instead of later this summer.

yeah, I just wouldn't want undue pressure on him...

I'd like to see us just use Borini for the rest of the season if thats the case, at least he knows the lay of the land and bring in another striker... But that would be dependent on BR's willingness to play him or freeze him out..

Ideally, we'd move Borini on now (replace him) and Lambert on in the summer and have Studge, Balo, Origi and one more (pref bought in Jan) for next season...

Obviously, if he does come. I'd get behind him and hope he proves me wrong and acclimates just fine..

Not that it was against a SUPER impressive defense, but when Origi came on in the world cup against the US he seemed to do just fine. He moves around and toward the goal, and that opens many opportunities for the likes of Markovic to hit him with creative and cheap passes that he can convert on.
