How is it possible that we could spent so much money in the xfer window and get almost zero serviceable players? Have we set some sort of xfer window clusterfrick record?

I think it is mostly the injuries to our strikers. It has put us in a position that we have had to move players around to unnatural positions, which affects everyone.
Another issue has been the choice of personnel. I don't know if Rogers has been experimenting, or if he is keeping the team as fresh as he can by resting at random. That is the mist confusing thing I have kept track of.

Mingolet dropped indefinitely, according to Rodgers.

That's great, but Jones is worse IMO... at least Migs is a good shot stopper..
Maybe that means we really are going after a keeper in Jan

Surprised.
I didn't think Jones played well. Not bad, just not well. He did nothing that said he needed to start the next match over Migs.
Now, maybe we'll see him control the box a bit better, but he dove as a guess on goal 1 and I thought he was out of position on goal 3 - came out way too far for how the play was developing.
If Migs is no longer good enough to start, this has become a pressing need in January.

That is one of two big needs down! Now for that ever evasive DM.

Now I think Migs would be a pretty damn good #2, but not sure if he'd want to stay..

Anyone read Pearce's new article? It basically highlights a lot of the doubts we have had about a transfer committee, and confirms BR is taking way too much heat for the signings. I'll post a recap that I found in the comments section on reddit.
- A transfer committee of 5 people vote. If majority agree, Rodgers can buy the player he wants
- BR didn't want Balotelli.
- BR wanted Vorm but TC refused to give the funds
- BR and TC dont see eye to eye. getting unsavory
- BR also wanted Eriksen and Bony
- Low balling by TC also cost signings of Willian, Salah, Costa, Sanchez Mikhtaryan, Konoplyanka and more
- The club has a problem with Borini for costing them 14mil
- FSG might not spend in Jan.
*TC = transfer committee

This all seems like it would be true because it fits the "facts" but we don't know for sure it is true. Thats dangerous to assume, but I'll do it anyway.
It makes perfect sense - Rodgers clearly didn't want Balo during the summer US tour.
Erikson would be outstanding here. So would Bony - though Bony does tend to sit in the box a bit at times.
That list is just depressing to read.....sigh...
Oh shite, just saw the part that we may not spend in January...@#$# that. JH needs to fix this @#@#, and we need some help. The committee needs to go.

It's from Stuart Pearce's mouth. Which means it's what his contacts within the club are telling him. Whether or not that is 100% true or not is up for debate.
But like you said, it makes sense.
I mean, I think Balotelli is a supremely gifted player. But it is obvious how he is a glaring tactical mismatch for the teams Rodgers has built in his seasons here.
He wants a mobile striker who will work the channels. That is why Suarez was so successful here, and why BR bought Sturridge and Borini. They are all able to use every piece of grass in the final third. They are all able to play CF or as a wide player. They are tactically versatile (though Borini is clearly quite a few steps off the other two).
I find it hard to believe Rodgers would choose to completely alter his style of play from last season rather than buy a player in the mold of Suarez (obviously not an easy thing to do).

Says before the World Cup we had Sanchez in the bag and then management tried to negotiate too many small details and clauses into his contract and Sanchez then walked to Arsenal after the WC

Sanchez
Would have been the perfect replacement for Suarez. They are both machines. Rarely injured and just love to play the game.

Just ruined my night.
Here's something to cheer us all up:

Frick. I almost want you to stop. Almost. But the truth does need to be known. This is BS and its hurting our club.

Sanchez wanted out of Barca. Their style of play doesn't suit him, not sure it does for Suarez either. If Wenger wasn't such a pussy and offered 50 million pounds instead of 40+1, would y'all have taken it?
Posted on 12/15/14 at 8:13 pm to glassman
I don't think so.
I think, especially for another English team, we would have needed at least 75 for Suarez. Just my read on the situation.

Probably not, I agree. We would have won the league with him last year. :pipedream:
