If and I mean a very big if we get out of Upton Park with three points, Arsenal should be in fourth with SH playing Chelsea tomorrow.

Tomorrow is terrible. Pulling for Spuds and Chelsea on the same match day. God this sucks.

A draw between the Spuds and the Mancs would do me just fine. That's what I'll be pulling for in that one. Chelsea is already out of reach for us and will most likely win the league anyway, so I have no problem hoping they beat Southampton.

If we can also beat West Ham, those 3 results would put us back in the Top 4 ahead of the Hammers and Saints and within 3 points of United.

Come on you Gunners!

It still sucks wishing either of those teams win or draw.

What a game. Pure joy to watch. Let's hope we see a lot more of that during the run in!

Great day, taking 3 points at Upton Park, only side in Top 7 not to drop points, and Scheiderlin out for Soton match for receiving two yellows today

Yes, considering the shite show August through December has been, to be tied on points for fourth at the halfway mark is something to be thankful for.

Not to mention who is coming back. It is setting up for Arsenal.

Cazorla has just been brilliant in the last month.

He was in such a bad run of form, and now he has been incredible. I wonder what happens when Ozil returns. Does Wenger put Ozil out wide and give one of Giroud/Welbeck a rest?

No idea where Ozil fits in right now, at all. Hard to displace Ox and Santi on current form, though an in-form Ozil is our best player.

Couple of key players will be missing for Southampton on New Year's.

It's already been mentioned in this thread that Morgan Schneiderlin was sent off today against Chelsea and will be suspended. It was also confirmed after their game that right back Nathaniel Clyne will be out of action for a couple of weeks with an ankle injury also suffered today.

Those are two huge defensive misses for Saints. Just need to get through this one game with a win, get back in the Top 4 and then look forward to opening the defense of our FA Cup.

Come on you Gunners!

Great day for us. Every other team in the top 7 dropped points, and our future DM is out for Thursday in a key match. Three points back of third, and a win Thursday puts us back in top 4.

Enough optimism though:

Alex Song tells L'Equipe that, like Cesc Fabregas, he wanted to return to Arsenal. "I would have liked to go back, but they didn't want to."

Might be nice to have those two guys in our midfield right now.

This rustles my jimmies. We could have used Cesc and Song. The problem is that Arsene still doesn't like subbing or rotating at all, so what good is depth if you aren't going to use it until injuries force you to do so?

When Ozil gets back I say we make him the CAM in the 4-2-3-1, and put Santi as one of the deep midfielders. His defensive prowess is severely underrated, and he comes back pretty far on defense anyway. He's been very impressive in that deeper role, and with his footwork he is great at wiggling his way out of tight spaces under pressure.

That game made me a nervous wreck today. Glad we got the three points.

Santi makes some great tackles, no doubt. I'd be for this setup because I think you put Ozil at CAM and leave him there.

However, I'd be a little apprehensive about Santi in a pure DM role, he seems to turn the ball right back over a lot after he intercepts.

With our back four, I'd be

Only way I'd be comfortable with that is if we have a new DM behind Santi. Santi excels deeper, though. I wish we'd experiment formationally.

A diamond with Ozil behind Welbeck/Giroud-Sanchez, Ramsey and Santi on either side of Arteta deep would be a good look for us. That leaves a heathy Walcott out, though.

I think Ozil gets shunted out wide, unfortunately, in our current 4-3-3, pushing Welbeck centrally in a battle with Giroud.

It seems like all Wenger cares about is having 3 in midfield, but doesn't seem to care about the positioning of anyone else as long as they track back. What I would like is to return to the more disciplined 4231 we used for a fricking year losing very few games. All that required was a bit more intelligence from our fullbacks, and a player sitting deep.

At this point I'd take Coquelin over Flamini. Flamini was anonymous yesterday, which I think has to do with the fact Coquelin did all the hard running. I don't think Coqeulin has world class quality, but he's certainly better than Flamini. The fact we have to have a discussion about Flamini and Coquelin shows how badly we need a DM. I want Carvalho really badly.

I'm torn between Carvhalo and Scheiderlein. Scheiderlein is cheaper and isn't cup tied in the UCL. More experience in a better league as well.

Welbeck is a doubt Thursday.

I guess Yaya will get a start. Would love a Podolski start, but word is he's headed out on loan next month (though Wenger denies).

Carvalho ...that kid is a monster.

I really think Podolski could be much more productive starting against bottom table teams and FA cup games, not to mention being subbed in around the 60 minute mark.

Arsene is undoubtedly one of the greatest managers in top tier English football history.

That being said, I don't understand why he can't play more of a "mad scientist" role with a wealth of talent and use them when and where they'd be most effective.

If we had gotten Cesc, and if Ozil stayed healthy, hell, instead of maximizing the abundance of riches, Arsene would probably have let Ozil wilt on the bench until, unhappy, he would have asked to be shipped out.

I hope when everyone gets back and (I hope) after a Carvalho signing during the window, that Arsene changes his tactics as far as this ridiculous 80-85th minute subbing.
