If the interstate isn't very busy but the ramp meter is still turned on, do you:

come to a complete stop?

slow down rolling up to it because you know it will turn green when you get about 20 yards from it? (my method)

or do you completely ignore it?

I notice in the afternoons leaving work I typically slow down a little as I roll up to it but probably never drop below 35-40mph, but I always notice other cars coming to a complete stop

I predict multiple responses of "frick those lights, I ignore them every time I see them"

They do serve a purpose.....they just aren't always on at the right time and sometimes are on when they don't really need to be.

I just slow down, never really stopped.

If people learned to merge like normal human beings those lights wouldn't be necessary. Instead we have a city full of dipshits that do 30 mph and try to merge into 70 mph traffic then hit the brakes when they can't get in causing the ramp to backup.

These two depending on traffic conditions.

I do this too, but I don't really deal with these on-ramps too often. The ones I use most don't have lights.

i always felt like when no one is near it, it should be green until someone passes through it, and then turn red for 2 seconds

would make more sense IMO

The engineer that thought of putting these on ramps is a moron. I ignore them.

Why would lights be put on the ramp? Now the driver has a lesser distance to accelerate
into the interstate, where people are already driving over 70 MPH. I am just curious to what his reasoning was behind putting these cameras on here.
It wasn't a well thought out idea.

you're the moron pretty much

i will concede that on certain onramps the lights are too close to the merge area, not giving them enough time to accelerate

but generally the lights are operating during peak flow, when the speed is not really 70mph

Sit down a minute and think about why. Or maybe, wait for it, google why they're there.

We don't have these in Alabama, but in my Jeep I need every last inch of on-ramp to get through the gears and up to 70. I'm usually flooring it in 3rd gear until I hit about 60 then shift it into 4th and merge.
