This is becoming a major problem for me because I am always the bad guy.

We did a group thing for the 4th...and three girls and one guy had "gluten allergies"

I tried to tell them that it was very peculiar being that 0.7% of people have gluten allergies(1 in 143), and that 4 out of 6 of them having it was like 1/1 billion of a chance. But no one wanted to acknowledge the facts.

I had an issue in my last relationship with a chick and her sister being gluten-free,organic, yada,yada....even one time I bought a higher-end dog food for their pair of maltipoos as a surprise gift for them....and I got chastised that I would expect their dogs to "eat that"(processed byproducts)

I can't stand it anymore...we couldn't have regular buns for the Burgers....had to buy beef at like three-times the price so that if was grass-fed and certified..yada,yada,yada....all to fricking satiate their belief in some bullshite propaganda.

I even tried to show her the forbes report:

quote:

Peter Gibson, a professor of gastroenterology at Monash University and director of the GI Unit at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, published a study that found gluten, a protein found in grains like wheat, rye, and barley, to cause gastrointestinal distress in patients without celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder unequivocally triggered by gluten. Double-blinded, randomized, and placebo-controlled, the experiment was one of the strongest pieces of evidence to date that non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS), more commonly known as gluten intolerance, is a genuine condition.

which kinda mainstreamed this whole shite

quote:

the study also lent credibility to the meteoric rise of the gluten-free diet. Surveys now show that 30% of Americans would like to eat less gluten, and sales of gluten-free products are estimated to hit $15 billion by 2016 — that’s a 50% jump over 2013's numbers!

then later they re-did the study

quote:

Analyzing the data, Gibson found that each treatment diet, whether it included gluten or not, prompted subjects to report a worsening of gastrointestinal symptoms to similar degrees. Reported pain, bloating, nausea, and gas all increased over the baseline low-FODMAP diet. Even in the second experiment, when the placebo diet was identical to the baseline diet, subjects reported a worsening of symptoms! The data clearly indicated that a nocebo effect, the same reaction that prompts some people to get sick from wind turbines and wireless signals, was at work here. Patients reported gastrointestinal distress without any apparent physical cause. Gluten wasn’t the culprit; the cause was likely psychological. Participants expected the diets to make them sick, and so they did. The finding led Gibson to the opposite conclusion of his 2011 research:

In contrast to our first study… we could find absolutely no specific response to gluten.”

I try to show her this report, and she gets mad at me because I'm calling her stupid and naive(she's in Medicine, as was the Ex)

she just got me this

You can't talk to these people. They just tell you that you are wrong and give you the bullshite benefits of a gluten free diet. I was told it was beneficial for everyone to eat gluten free. It is not worth wasting your time.

They are not nearly as bad as the militant vegans. I have actually liked a few vegan and vegetarian pages on facebook to get ideas for recipes. Reading their comments is amazing. They always ask if you think it is ok to kill and eat another person. I always ask them if it is ok for an animal to eat another animal.

My son was GF for a while because they thought he had celiac. Incorrect diagnosis means we no longer eat cardboard.

I absolutely would NOT cause a fuss or make anyone make any special accommodations for me, but I watched a documentary all about how the above is a lot better for you than just regular. But again, I wouldn't have mentioned anything abotu it at a party.

I tell them this is what I have and if they don't like it, they don't have to eat. Is it that hard?

you are a much better person than I...I cook what I'm cooking, if they have special nutritional needs like that gluten-free crap, they can bring their special food or not come at all.
