These are very low concrete bridges poured over a shallow/ sandy creek bed. Cant pass them when the water rises.

Ive only seen two. One off the Natchez trace near Natchez and one on Thompson creek near St. Francisville. Anyone know of any others?

Took the fam to the one on the trace this weekend. It's not passible anymore but you can still hike to it.

Also is this a cheaper option engineers even consider anymore?

You must be from the area to even know about these???

I spent many weekends as a kid at the one on the Trace.

Yes from the area. Spent a lot of time all over the trace growing up. Clear springs, homochitto, indian village, emerald mound, vburg battle fields etc also. My kids told me my childhood seems like it was a continuous summer camp. Come to think of it I agree. Wish there was any realistic way to provide, to live around there.

Well, several years ago they actually constructed a new bridge about 5-6' off the water, so only goes under a couple times a year whereas it used to be had water running over it at all times. It was timber too, not concrete

The one on the trace could be passible with a little maintenance. The approaches are all silted up. I don't think the park service wants the hassle of patrolling it anymore. It's been that way for at least 10 years.

Might not be an exact match to your definition, but the bridges on Highway 11 in Irish Bayou are pretty low. A high tide or hard east wind or a combination of the two will put the water up to the bridge.

I have gotten caught in situations where I left to go fishing and then could not return on the way back. The water under the bridge near the levee is fairly deep and the current runs pretty good in that spot. (different than your shallow water requirement in the opening post)

The one I know of near St. Francisville crosses Bayou Sara just south of the Solitide Plantation area.

There is one across Bayou Sara there, another on Sligo Rd, one on Island Rd, and another on Morris Rd that crossed a fork of Thompson Creek.

I miss the old one in Solitude that crossed Bayou Sara. Was always good for a laugh once a month when someone ran off it/ tried to cross during high water

This is the one I'm familiar with. Fun to cross after a decent rain. You feel like it may be swept away at any time.

Whenever we visited Pappy, he would let us know if we could take the low water bridge or if we had to take the high water bridge to the north. Once he must have gotten it wrong and we saw a truck washed off the road/slab and stuck in the sand.

The one in Solitude crosses Bayou Sara not far from St.Francisville

The only ones on Tompson creek are actually forks of Thompson Creek. There use to be an old one on Whitaker Rd just across the line in Mississippi.

There's one at Molly Barnes Ford on the Strawberry River near me. The county had to put gates near the ends they close after a big rain. Idiots kept driving on the submerged bridge. After a couple of vehicles were washed over, the gates appeared. The bridge is an access point for boaters, as well as a good spot to fish. My grandson caught his first smallmouth off the bridge last year.
