Is it worth getting a slingbox?

How is the picture quality? Can I get every channel the cable box has that I set it up on? What about DVR access?

1. as good as your connection allows
2. it streams/placeshifts your cable box so whatever you are subscribed to
3. You can access your DVR on your cable box. the slingbox uses an RF transmitter to control the box

So if the internet is slow the picture will be bad?

You have to worry about your home network upload speeds and the download speeds of where you are

Chances are the uploads are going to be your bottleneck but even when I was only getting about 2.5 up I could remote stream to my phone from Plex just fine.
On the Roku, the Plex channel lets you sign into your myPlex account and even then I was able to watch remotely (at my in-laws) on an HDTV with minimal buffering.

As far as usage you can do anything that you can do with your remote at home. The experience will only be as good as your homes upload speed and wherever you are at the download speed. I've used them for about 6 years and I really like it. I like getting my local home channels wherever I am. For work once I was in Berlin and me and the boss watched the saints game at the bar. Used the hotels' wifi and I have about 5mbps up at home. Worked great.

Here is a special running on Slingbox, that rewards both existing users and new purchasers.
Slingbox Referral Program
I'm interested in purchasing one. If you have a Slingbox, and want to earn a referral bonus, let me know.

I have used a slingbox for years. It has always been worth the investment for me. The quality just depends, but I care about having access to my content way more than the quality. For instance, I would never get to see local sports (LSU and Saints for example) when they aren't on national TV. I definitely enjoy it.

I rarely use mine but it was well worth the price when I want to use it.

I got it back in the day for my brother who was deployed. He said he didn't have any issues with the quality while in Iraq/Afghanistan.
Used to use it at tailgates, but it sucks the bandwidth.

What are you guys finding the ideal UP/DOWN speeds are for the best quality? I travel a lot for work and would love to be able to watch my shows in my hotel room but sometimes the DOWN in the hotel room is shaky, at best.
