Compressor not kicking on...AC Repair on a Sunday, or Hotel (updated)

In Prairieville/Galvez area.
Unit blows in and out. Compressor not kicking on. Not sure where fuses are. Not in main breaker box on side of house. Not in service box by the unit.
Hotel or try to find someone this late on a Sunday? I have a guy in the neighborhood but he hasn't returned my calls yet.
Option c: knock on door

wouldn't hurt hivac's are pretty simple, I could help you out with an honest guy, but it would be about a 7 hr. drive for him

I appreciate it. At this point I'm fearing the worst, but even if it is a capacitor or fuse, it's not like I can produce one on a Sunday night myself anyway. I trust the guy in the neighborhood. He's come over when I first moved in and found an obvious problem...didn't charge me. I think Ill just wait and tackle in the morning.

Same thing happened to me. Thank god I have a second unit to makes things reasonably bearable.

I keep a universal capacitor for this very reason. It's almost always the capacitor or the fan.
I had a guy randomly call me earlier today and ask if I go to Gonzales.
I don't, but strange.

And if the compressor went bad, he won't be able to produce one for your particular model until tomorrow either. At the very least, try to get him set up to meet you at the house first thing in the morning before hotel checkout.

you can get that from HD, pretty simple to install, shut off unit at the disconnect, take the old one off, put new one on, only about three wires, with corresponding plugs, just be careful to not cross the prongs off of the old one with a conductor, just in case there might be a little juice left in it

Buy an inexpensive window unit. It'll tide you over, and you can use it in a shed or something later on.
We will never have a tool shed without a window unit again. It was a wonderful thing when I refinished an old door last summer.

is there not an electrical box on the outside of the house by the unit?....inside, there should either be a breaker switch or a fuse that you can pull out...
does the fan work on the outside unit?....

One Hour Air Conditioning and Heating has the contract on my place. The fan in the condensing unit outside shite itself the day before Labor Day last year. I think it cost my landlord $500 or so to get it fixed in under five hours on a holiday Sunday. There was no "weekend charge" that I could see on the bill, so that's their normal price for taking care of shite right this second. An HVAC guy with more typical hours would probably be cheaper, but he might not be able to get to you for a couple of days this time of year.
Yeah, my landlord's that awesome.

Anyone with a basic sense of electronics should keep a spare capacitor and breaker handy for situations like this.
They don't cost much.

Best advice in this thread. Will be the best $50 you ever spent.
It take an hour to swap a capacitor if you never did it before and have only a swiss army knife for tools.

Do you have a window that could take a window unit in the bedroom? You could probably get a window unit for the price of a hotel room.
