I know it's not important and I'm speaking in large generalities, but I find myself cringing when "conservatives" go out if their way to put down soccer or the WC.

I'm not talking just ann coulter, but I've heard it casually plenty of places and IRL.

I'm the average bandwagon USA fan. I don't care, but it seems to prove the the lefts talking points correct--we're outdated, xenophobic, insecure, etc.

1. Who cares? So many real things to complain about but some really want to let it be known they hate soccer and it's "gay" and for "communists"

2. The other irony to me is that rabid nationalism is cool now, whereas in my experiences in 2006 the left thumbed their noses at waiving flags and cheering USA like a nascar race. What's wrong with a little nationalism? We should be proud to be unified even if it's trivial. Now were hating on nationalism? Stupid

3. Seems some on the right want to make it a point that liking soccer is divided somehow on political lines. Unnecessary and decisive. Makes us appear unlikable and out of touch.

Thanks for listening

It's silly knee-jerk anti-Europe tripe.

The vast majority of Americans are uninterested in soccer. Get over it. Coulter was right.

Im not conservative but Im tired of the news talking about soccer and the world cup. That should be on ESPN not CNN or Fox. The are 100's if not 1000's of more important issues the news stations should be covering. I watch the news to learn about important events, not to know if soccer is gaining popularity in the US.

A little more nationalism is all this country needs to be officially fascist.

Yes. Is there nothing better to do than to shite on the most popular sport in the world?

I was a World Cup only soccer fan until my kid started playing club... well. People that don't watch it don't really appreciate the difficulty and the skill required, and it looks boring to them. I never was excited about soccer in general until the last few years, but I have to admit it's a beautiful sport. Does it mean I'll shite on baseball? No. I don't even watch the World Series anymore, but to those that do it's a great pastime. That's their business. Coulter, Beck's sidekicks, et al are acting like liberals.

I'm not a fan of soccer, but I feel the same way about hockey. I just didn't grow up with it, and it doesn't "grab" me.

That said: if that's your thing, more power to you, and I hope USA does well because 'murica.

Tried watching it the other day, and it couldn't keep my interest. I just prefer other sports.

Really? That's probably not the best way to go about it.

It's as annoying as the attempt to force feed soccer down our throats.

I've never seen soccer as an ideological divide. There are sports I like, sports I don't. Never got the appeal of soccer.

Hockey is a sport you actually have to be in attendance to enjoy IMO. I'm not a huge hockey fan, but it's got more action than soccer and the fans are awesome.

Exactly. These people are acting like liberals--I don't like what makes you happy so I'm going to go out of my way to mock and discredit you for it.

IMO this is not a geat time for us, a lot if faith has been lost. Sports transcends that shite, you see it all tve time, even if it's just tempory. Why shite on everyone's fun, especially if we're supporting the country?

I get that, and that may be part of the resistance. I'm not trying to sell soccer but just saying I'm finding it more that conservative leaning folks are going to such lengths to bash soccer...talking in media and just personal experiences.

It's an interesting point you bring out. Conservatives have a tendency to reject the unfamiliar or different while liberals either don't give a frick or try it out. And I'm not speaking of libertarians but the far right. It's what makes them conservative. It's part of the DNA.

There's been a push to make Americans like soccer since I've been alive, and in large it hasn't worked, until now.

Soccer dislike/apathy is more generational than ideological. It's caught on with younger folks, and will be much more popular in the future.

nope, it's just trendy bullshite for a couple of weeks

However, the USA advancing by losing is just fricking perfect for the "everybody gets a participation trophy" generation.

libertarians are to the right of who you call "conservatives." The judgmental/rejecting mindset is a common trait between the liberals and conservatives. They only disagree on what should be rejected or controlled.
