As BBC reports, citing Maliki, "Jets from Russia and Belarus will hopefully make a key difference in the fight against ISIS in Iraq." He expressed regrets over Iraq's contract with the US, saying their "jets are taking too long to arrive."

"God willing within one week this force will be effective and will destroy the terrorists' dens," he told BBC Arabic.

quote:

"I'll be frank and say that we were deluded when we signed the contract [with the US]," Maliki said. "We should have sought to buy other jet fighters like British, French and Russian to secure the air cover for our forces; if we had air cover we would have averted what had happened," he went on.

quote:

Ironically, this also means that, at least optically, the US is now alligned with Russia as well as Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia in the "all against one" fight against ISIS which continued to consolidate its territory in Iraq and Syria.

quote:

What it really means is that Obama has asked, and is about to get $500 milllion more to arm ISIS and its al-Qaeda peers in Syria, which in turn the Iraq air force will now use Russian jets to bomb.

They're going to teach their pilots to fly Migs in one week, or are they buy Russian pilots too?

Who's going to teach these morons to fly/service these Russian jets? And quickly enough to stem ISIS' tide?

Because a MIG is so effective against a non-state actor like ISIS.

Your troops quit because they have nothing worth fighting for. Air cover won't do anything about that.

Iraqi forces were spoiled fighting along US forces with 24/7 air support. They're not used to actually having to hold their ground or assault through an objective.

Those fricking idiots can't fly the jets they've had for years. How the hell do they expect to have these operational in a week? Unless Russian airmen are personally going to be fighting in Iraq, those dumbfricks are going to continue to get bent over by the ISIS and Obama will continue to fund them.

So we give them training/equipment for free, and then they contract with Russia and other nations. Hmmmm.

The warthog is my all-time favorite military aircraft. From what I've read its a relatively simple plane to fly.

I'm sure this will work considering their main military airport will belong to ISIS by Sunday.

That's why I linked the militarized crop duster plane.

It's easy to operate, can land anywhere, and can carry a shite ton of weight. It's not fast but who cares if all you are doing is close air support.

Quite likely, Russian planes are "bought", Iraqi color schemes are painted on planes, Russian pilots don Iraqi uniforms, Russian ground crews come with the planes. Russians drop bombs on Sunni villages. Or Iranian pilots could be used, and there may be some old Iraqi pilots that flew the Migs before Saddam fell.

Again just need to drop bombs on Sunni towns, nothing too complicated.
