Moving there this weekend . Needless to say I am pumped . I will live with my aunt who lives in Central Austin because I want to check the area out first. What are some good options? I don't want to live in the burbs.

I lived just off the drag - right where they filmed "Slacker" - never a dull moment. Also lived in South Austin for a while and liked that area.

Yeah, Lakeway is about 30 minutes outside of Austin. Great area though.

I don't know you so I don't know what you're looking for. I lived in Hyde Park, East Austin and South Austin. All 3 are cool in their own way. East Austin was my favorite though.

Bee Cave is awesome. If you're loaded, check out the rest of the West Lake area. You're going to love this city. It's fantastic.

Drew Brees and Nick Foles went to Westlake High, so if you have a son one day, he needs to go there if you want him to ever have a chance at being a pro player.

Also, if you are working downtown, living off of Bee Cave/Westlake means a bitch of a commute in the morning.

South Austin is pretty cool, it's a different part of the city, not quite as gentrified yet. Most of the best Mexican food in town is down there.

West Lake and Bee Cave is a lot more "typical" Texas, if that's what you're looking for.

I remember like ten-fifteen years ago my grandpa referring to south Austin the way a New Orleanian refers to Central City or Holly Grove.
(though never as bad, lol)

I was born in Austin and lived in Round Rock up until first grade.

If you're still young, The Drag is fun as frick. If you're looking for a long term location to settle a family eventually, I'd look elsewhere.

I liked living in South Austin a lot. Again it depends on what you're looking for. I would never live in RR, Bee Caves or WL.

I lived in an area between west campus and mopac. Loved it there. Quick access to just about anywhere in Austin from that spot, plus it has the feel of a secluded neighborhood.
