As planned, All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony will file notice with the New York Knicks on Monday that he plans to exercise the early termination option on his contract and become a free agent on July 1, a league source told Yahoo Sports.

Someone needs to do a free agent megathread. (Not it).
NBA.com has all the free agents listed with details. It's pretty nifty.

right cause he'll magically learn fundamental defense with another team

If he goes to Houston, it would be a collection of the three biggest pretenders in the league. If he goes to Chicago, he'll be in the same situation he was in in New York.

I, for one, am absolutely shocked that a player would use all of the leverage he can muster in his favor. I'm surprised he's not "interested" in every single team in the league.

It would be interesting to see what Thibodeau could get out of him

Melo, Harden and Dwight would be entertaining

he's the one who forced his way out of a decent situation in Denver to go to the Knicks, despite them being a dumpster fire of a team, just so he could play in a bigger media market. Now he's demanding out again like the flaws in his game wont follow him around wherever he goes

If Melo goes to Houston, then Morey should get GM of the Decade. He will have landed three superstars with virtually no appeal.

No way would it work, Harden/Melo are two ballhogs and the team would be weak defensively. Lots of 5 on 3 situations with Melo/Harden back cherry picking.

As a Chicago fan, don't want him. Would love to see him go to Miami to view that circus.

I want him to go to Houston so bad. That'll be the clusterfrick of the decade

By clusterfrick, you mean deep playoff run, right?
Posted on 6/22/14 at 1:20 pm to droman225
So Houston adds Carmelo Anthony and they become worse? Is that what you're saying?

If by deep playoff run, you mean first round exit then yeah

They couldn't even get out of the first round after all their other major moves

Opting out and demanding out are two different things.
If you're a superstar with more good years ahead of you and you have the opportunity to opt out, you do it. Even if you're 100% sure you'll sign with the same team again.
I bet he stays in New York.
