I will be in New York City Sunday, June 22nd through Friday, June 27th. I will be staying on W. 50th street. Couple of blocks from Times Square.
Need some recommendations on places to eat and where should I be drinking in the evenings.
Thanks in advance.

I'll be there the 26-30. Staying not too far from you. Here is what B-Money sent to me in regards to my question in the FBD thread:

quote:

For beer, you'll be very close to The Pony Bar. It gets pretty crowded though. I actually enjoyed Beer Culture just down 45th from Pony Bar a good bit more. They don't have as many taps, but have multiple coolers of bottles and cans that you can browse then open there or take to go. Nice little vibe too. Rattle N Hum was really cool too. Great draft list and my kind of place.

For eats, I was with the family, so we had kids to feed, which limited some of our options. We had a great dinner at Sarabeth's on Central Park South. John's Pizza Times Square had a great coal fired margherita pizza. Ate lunch at Carnegie Deli one day just to say we had been there. The corned beef sandwich was piled high with meat and was tasty. Tony's Di Napoli had some good family style Italian.

what kind of lifestyle are you into, are flashy, are you frat, are you a nerd, are you black we need to know more about you so that we can point you in the right directions. i'd tell you to go to the electric room, but if you showed up wearing your lsu hat and flip flops you might not get in.

My wife worked at E&Y in Times Square for a number of years. Every time we go to visit, we go to John's Pizzeria for lunch one day. Really cool place, good pizza.

Chelsea market has some really good food. We ate there for lunch the day we got in. Kinda forgot about that. Wish I could have tried more of the places there.

Down The Hatch

Eat
Keen's Steakhouse
Burger Joint
Bereket Kabob House

Some of my favorite bars and restaurants. Most places are all casual and laid back (except Keen's).

Hit up Chelsea Market if you have time just to take in all the food.

There is a nice bar inside and they have a 1/2 happy hour. Some solid beers from that area if you are into that.

I don't go there enough to recommend many places to eat, but I always tell people to go to Po

One of the better meals I've had. It's a very tiny, intimate Italian place in the West Village.

Ultimately, there's so much to do/eat in the city, it's hard to go wrong.

Enjoy

Go drink beer at Rattle N Hum. It's right near the Empire State Building.

I disagree. They're are so many options it's tough to find a truly great place. I lived up there for 2 years and had plenty of mediocre to bad meals.

True, I have spent the last couple months in NYC and the greater majority of spots are bullshite tourist traps or just bad food.

Download the yelp app and filter by rating and most reviewed... that will at least get you headed in the right direction most of the time.

I went to both Scarpetta and Pearl & Ash this past weekend. Both were superb. Scarpetta was a top 5 all time meal for me.

I agree there are 3215902158315 restaurants and it can be hard to get a good one, but I've always been OK as long as I do a bit of research.

Yeah nowadays I rely heavily on Yelp, this board, Food & Wine magazine, and other sources. Back when I lived there in 09 there were fewer reliable sources accessible via smart phone while you're out walking around.
