Anyone been?

I've never been- friend from out of town is here and wanted to go last night- obviously we should've checked online because at 7pm when we got there they were already closed.

I see their ads in the Gambit, travel stuff, etc. Place doesnt look like much from the outside.

It's a block down Orleans Ave from Dooky Chase going towards Broad, and then 1 block off Orleans on St.Ann.

I doubt we'll try again while he's here, but I was maybe considering it down the road if it's any good.

I don't get all the love for the fried chicken there. I have tried it on 3 different occasions hoping that I caught them on a bad day and have not been blown away by the chicken. I do really like the side dishes though

It's good. Nothing mind blowing but good chicken and sides. Be sure to look for coupons for lunch specials. There's a different special everyday (student discount, free drink w entree, ect)

I think it's the best fried chicken I've ever had.

Thanks guys!

I think I will definitely give it a try when I'm in the mood for some FC.

Just go and get the red beans and the fried chicken, together. Last time I went it was just before closing and I told them to give me a plate of fried chicken with red beans all over it.

Most might not appreciate it, but that plate was a specialty at a late-night dive that I frequented many years ago.

I'd fight you for a plate of that messy goodness.

Not a big fan, it's not bad though. The only thing I really got out of going is the ability to tell people I've been there when they ask about it. Which really is nothing.

Where is this Gus' you speak of?

I like Willie Maes. It's a different kind of batter, and I like it. Some people dont.

It's real good. You gotta try it.

I like it and I've been eating there since well before Katrina. But I've said before, the chicken is good, very good, but the red beans are a top five in the city. Easy.

I like the chicken, but down the street on Broad, you'll find McHardy's, a take out place. Their chicken is tremendous.

Willie Mae's is worth a visit. I am with the 'good but not up to the hype camp.' The Gus's mentioned above is likely Gus World Famous Fried Chicken in Memphis. If you go to Gus, make sure to eat the chicken with the Ranch Dressing.. Make a strong man cry.

Sleeper hit on the Willie Mae's menu is the country style fried pork chop. That a a big plate of white beans. Then have some fried chicken for dessert.

If that is overrated, I dont want to be rated.
