Am I the only one who finds overpriced restaurant food to be lack luster?

I rarely ever walk away from paying $20+/entree thinking "wow that was worth it"

Is it wrong to expect linear representation of cost v. experience? I get that I may be cheap, but I often think I've been scammed.

I remember years ago seeing a Wolfgang Puck sandwich making segment on a news program....he makes an okay sandwich and the host says "and what do you charge for this sandwich...$9?"...and he grabs a sprig of parsley, lays it across the top of the sandwich and says "$12"

I don't find that the food tastes better, it's at best the same, but often worse. One chef in Paris does something, and all these wanna-be's start trying to replicate.

But even the basics

Does anyone walk away thinking, "man, that was worth every penny"?

Everytime? No. You are also paying for service and the experience in many situations...

Um, Paris is not a hotbed of culinary innovation.

I hate cooking, specifically the cleaning up part. Other than breakfast I'd much rather eat somewhere else than at home.

If the restaurant truly is overcharging, then people won't there and it will fail.

which explains life expectancy of the god awful places that I am forced to try.

Live in SF...and I try to explain to the GF.....why are we going to this "new place" when there are places that have been open for decades serving great tasting, reasonably priced, tried and true food?

She wanted me to try this new Haut-Cajun restaurant....Dropped $180

boudin balls were crumbly had didn't have spice
crawfish pie- seriously $2 at any gas station
Asparagus bread pudding(entree)..WTF was I thinking?
Pecan catfish...bland

I feel violated...and have no idea how anyone invested in this hack. Seriously, my school cafeteria put out better tasting food than what I can only describe as bad hospital food.

In the same way Top-40 music sells, stupid teeny bopper fashions.....Highend restaurants are the Same.

Is there any type of place that is more likely to be a horrid caricature abomination than a "Cajun" restaurant > 500 miles from Louisiana.

Looking at the other pics, that looks more like their take on jambalaya. I think whoever posted that pic didn't know wtf they were talking about. There are other gumbo pics that look more "normal."

I would not eat at that place.

Where's the link? I wonder if they smoked the chicken and then put it in a fryer or broiled the top to get the skin looking golden and crispy. I find that part interesting.
