He lost his job and asked $300....no big deal. He gave me a High Standard .357/ .38 in return. I told him to just repay when he could. I googled it and the gun was designed/built by Dan Wesson. Any thoughts?

If a friend of mine needed money, I'd just give him the money. I wouldn't want anything for it.

You're planning on keeping it? Asking since, based on what you said, the pistol is more like collateral.

I did him a favor with nothing expected for my loan. It's really that simple.

One simple rule for lending money to friends and family:

Only give it if you truly expect nothing back. No loans, no pawning, just give it and let it go, or don't give it. Never let there be a balance sheet with friends or family.

I agree with that except...........who would you lend money to, that is not "friend or family"

That answers your question, unless you want to play a-hole banker, don't lend money. Give or don't give.

This wtf is your deal man? Me and my buddies regularly "lend" each other money. Most are for spur of the moment hunting trips but no one has ever gotten burned. If my friend called me tmrw and said " I need $500 " I wouldn't use one of his guns as collateral. That's what friends are for man. Lending a helping hand when you need it. Maybe it's different In Louisiana.

This guy gets it... I gave him the money because I've been there. I didn't want the gun as collateral, I just realized it was an older gun. If he wanted the gun he could it have 2nite no questions asked.

Good call. All I know if my boy calls me in a bind what's mine is his. I know he feels the same way that's what makes it a great friendship. Not all of my friends are that special. But the select few are more like brothers rather than friends. That's how it should be IMHO
