BYOP = bring your own phone, not that i probably had to clarify that here.

Normally I'd just search a couple of forums/blogs and find this sort of info out, but goddamn on issues like this the amount of misinformation is staggering. Half the answers given to similar questions prove the poster doesnt even understand the difference between CDMA and GSM, and god forbid its a dual band phone - heads my explode.
/rant

Anyhow, as the title suggests, I'm finally off contract with Sprint and want to move over to Straight Talk. Sprint service is terrible where i live and where i work. Verizon and ATT are both good, so that makes ST a viable option. The problem is where my Wife's parents live its Verizon or bust.

Thus I (she) need a Verizon CDMA android phone that will work on the Straight Talk BYOP plan.

Current phone is a Samsung GS3, perfectly good phone - don't need a "better" phone. Just one of equal performance. Best case scenario would for one of you to tell me I could flash this sprint GS3 over to verizon and then have it activated on ST using the verizon towers. Doubt I'll get that lucky.
Next best option - a verizon branded GS3 or something similar like a Moto X. Now the moto x comes as both a verizon and GSM in one (world phone) and I believe everyone that has been using that phone with ST has been using an ATT sim.
Secondary question - can anyone confirm that 4g is available with CDMA on ST or is still restricted to GSM?

Please also note, the CDMA Bring Your Own Phone program does not support 4G LTE, Blackberry phones or branded TracFone, NET10, Straight Talk, SafeLink, or Telcel America phones.

Shame you can't use GSM with them because the LTE is nice, especially for the cost.

I've done this before a few years ago. Their sim cards all use the Sprint network. Don't know if that's changed since then.

Just left ST...My wife was using it with her HTC One...It sucked...Got her a plan with ATT for $5 more a month and works 10x better! Just my experience

I use an S3 on Net10 using ATT. Works great and I get 4G LTE. My wife uses same service but uses an Iphone 4s. Works great. Why not swap your S3 for a VZw S3? Or do like I did and just buy one outright. You can sell yours to cover a portion of the cost.

I pay $145 per month for my Net10 service and 14GB of data for my Verizon Hotspot. My job reimburses me $150 per month.

If i can find someone who is doing that with VZW i will. I just want confirmation before i purchase the phone, right now everyone i know using a S3 or S4 on ST is using a GSM model.

I found a VZW S3 on ebay and checked the IMEI on ST's website with a Baton Rouge zip code, and it is not compatible. Only AT&T, T-Mobile, or unlocked GSM phones can be used.
