I've fished for trout, reds and flounder since 93. Fish reggio, delacroix and big lake regularly.... however, I've never fished out of cocodrie.
Any tips or advice? Going to be part of a big group of people who have fished it, but it is a tourney of sorts and probably won't get "great" info
Going to be riding with a co worker thats fished there a bunch, but he mostly does offshore fishing than inshore...

Find clean water and bait. Sounds simple but down there right now it's not. Lee shores ,windy points, mouths of natural bayous , any white poles with clean water on them drift them all.if you can get to the islands or rigs offshore do so. Gulp under a cork, swim baits..... I'm not a live bait guy but if you can get shrimp and find decent water you will catch . Good luck

Are the shrimp even running down there yet? You fish them under a cork? carolina style?

We had some engine trouble, so we didn't make it out yesterday. Instead we took a party barge and pulled a test trawl. Caught half an ice chest in about 3 hours. Shrimp were definitely everywhere. We had no clue how to trawl and still did okay.

Well hopefully that continues throughout the week.... Kinda pumped to he going there, would prefer not to scratch though. Always kinda nervous fishing new places. Like red said earlier, find baitfish and clean water... Guess that'll be a solid plan.

I usually fish them both ways depending on the situation .....Carolina rig near well heads/sometimes on the beach, under cork near shallow flats.
The place I go had live shrimp 2 weeks ago..
Hope the weather forecast improves, looks slightly windy towards the weekend.

Kg, any size to the shrimp? Hoping to buy a mess of them when I'm down there to boil. You see any birds working?

Shrimp are med to small. At least that's what our neighbor and buddy have been catching.

Didn't see many birds diving. Just a handful here and there. GD cats underneath.

Just study the maps. Look for points and determine which way the water will be moving. Try to find clean water.

We were in northern Lake Barre all weekend and we had clean water.

I wouldn't waste money on live bait, unless it's live shrimp. Caught more on gulp and plastic than live cocahoes.

Any clean water around? Trying to decide if we are going to come down this weekend or not.

if you cant find clean water, then use live crabs, pop the shells and cut them in 4, fish a little deeper and don't pop the line too much, the reds will come crawling for them by smell alone. too many December early morning fishing trips.
