So Cali Chrome's Jacka$$ owner just tarnished the entire story with his reaction

That might be the melt of the year! What an idiot.

CLARIFICATION:

Actually, let me clarify what I mean by "tarnishing the story". This story wasn''t really about the horse. The feel good story was about the owners, salt of the Earth type people compared to the stereotypical wealthy horse owner(s).

The made for TV/movie story is about "normal" hard working people who purchased a horse for next to nothing and that horse nearly won the triple crown.

His rant and jackassery (pun intended) ruined the feel good story. Everyone, rich or salt of the earth, now has the impression that the owners are poor sports, terrible losers, and ironically....entitled.

Horse racing entitlement versus homegrown luck was and has been the storyline leading up to this race. These people and their horse weren't supposed to be a threat to the establishment. It was a classic rich versus "poor" David versus Goliath storyline that the average person could connect to. Ambition versus entitlement.

With his rant, he effectively showed the world that he became what he openly criticized...entitled. He became the establishment.

Everyone's acting like babies.

Blaming the jockey
Blaming a rule that's never existed

Instead of just accepting that California Chrome simply wasn't good enough. It takes an incredible horse

What do you mean tarnished? Story doesn't matter if he doesn't win the third leg. Nothing to lose after CC didn't win, might as well let it all out.

You are 100 percent correct. The seven week stretch of three races run at different distances has been going on since I can remember, and I started watching the triple crown in 1962. The challenge is meant to be a test of ability, soundness, and endurance. California Chrome ran a solid, and his classless owner diminished his effort with his comments. This man should apologize. If he really thought that the format of the Triple Crown was unfair, then he shouldn't have run. Why shouldn't owner who are based in New York not be allowed to run in the premiere event in their state? Enter California Chrome in the Woodward, Marlboro, and the Breeder's Cup Classic; there is plenty of time between those races. This man's poor sportsmanship made racing look bad. The sad thing is that many people will agree with his comments.

Yeah you can't tarnish a nonexistent story.

Didn't fully realize the breakdown of the finishers and his point of contention:

California Chrome was the only horse in the Top 6 finisher of the Belmont to run the Preakness and, of the Top 3 finishers in the Belmont, only Medal Count ran the Derby.

But that's the way it is...and probably (along with modern breeding) is why we will never see another TC winner with the races so close together.

I think his rant at least helped explain the situation to the casual fan who maybe didn't know this. I doubt he really cares if he came off bad...he just lost immortality.

his horse wasn't close to winning, and got a lucky dead heat for 4th.

other owners have lost it in final jumps, with the lead. They didnt cry like a pansy, they moved on.

I've always thought it was dumb that the Triple Crown is be done in 7 weeks.

if they want to build hype to save their dying sport they should stretch it out longer.

but whatevs, its their thing so they can run it however.

this dude shouldn't complain when every other TC winner has faced the same odds.

The triple crown is obsolete in many ways. It was built 100 years ago for what horses did back then - run early and run often.
They just aren't bred to do that anymore and really haven't been since the 1950s. Still, Super Horses will win the Crown and there hasn't been a super horse since Spectacular Bid who didn't win the triple crown only because of injury. .
Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed were super horses.
