Been up and down on the weight scene since college and now in my late 40's. Had a few brief stints at almost the defensive end/ linebacker look, f'n starving to death. But the serious thing now is some of my friends in their fifties are having the heart attacks and stints and I'm kind of thinkin about that. No problem with the gym other than some knee pain but I do travel a lot in outside sales over 4 states. Little help for an old Tiger! 6'5" 310 now.

DDP Yoga will aid with the weight loss and knee pain.

Swimming is the best workout I can get without bothering my knees. I'd suggest trying that.

I'm 6'4 but was never that heavy. I lost about 40 lbs a couple of years ago using intermittent fasting. Check out Lean Gains. There are several books out on IF but I haven't read any so can't give any recommendations in that area.

I feel your pain, 6-1, was up to 335 - yep let myself get a "little" out of shape!
Diet started Aug 30, 2013 now at 265 and still working on it. Bought a bike and started riding about 2 months ago. My heart dr said i was good, but if I didn't lose weight, we'd be seeing each other again. He gave me this diet.
Breakfast: (usually I just make a ham and cheese omelet, maybe add a little spinach to it)
1 or 2 eggs
2 slices of bacon, ham, or sausage
coffee or tea, no sugar
Snack: 1/4 cup nuts, no sugar
no calorie drink
Lunch:
large green salad (lettuce or spinach), no carb dressing, 5 olives, and turkey, chicken beef, cheese, or tuna
Snack: 1/4 cup nuts
Supper:
Fish, Pork, Beef or Poultry, up to 10 oz., no sauce
small salad, broccoli, asparagus, or green beans
NO:
fruit or fruit juice
ketchup
bread
rice
potatoes
chips
corn
pasta
desserts
ice cream
carrots, beets, turnips

You should check out /r loseit and /r fitness on Reddit. Lot of excellent information there and inspiring testimonials.

Go in for a check up with complete blood work and see if you have any problems now such as blood pressure, cholesterol, lipids, etc. This will determine what you need and don't need in your diet.
Measure your waist at your navel. That number should be half of your height in inches (per a nutritionist that hates bmi).
Once you know what to eat use something like this:
My Fitness Pal (links to app for smartphone)
The biggest help for me has been lowering sugar intake. Most of my calories come from protoform and fat. I have no blood problems and fat and Prokofiev keeps you satisfied with plenty of energy.
If all that fails get some adipex from your doc.

Swimming, low carb, high protein, veggies at every meal, no fruit after 1400.

Yoga is an excellent suggestion.

A lot of these are great points.
I went from 225 down to my current 185 to 190 by eliminating processed carbs from my diet. This means saying no to soft drinks, fruit juice, potatoes, corn products, pasta, cakes, breads, etc. I'll probably never have a six pack because I refuse to give up beer, but eliminating most carbs from your diet makes weight control much easier.
Also, as we get older our bodies don't take the pounding of jogging/running as well as it used to, but walking should work just fine. You need at least 2 hours (preferably 3) a week of cardio (a brisk walk will work just fine) to help lose the pounds.

Some good advice, appreciate the OT takin this serious, thanks. Hitting the bike today. Funny thing, trainer tells me big folks always on the weights and fit folks always on in the cardio section. He tells me "if a truck fell on ya family you could lift it off.....but if it fell on them a mile down the road they're gonna die!" Headed to the cardio side in case that truck falls!!! LOL
