Thinking about getting one for my coon dogs. Does anybody have any experience with them, or more importantly running a dog with a pile of collars on them?

My main concern is the e-collar interfering with my tracking collar. I'd be running my dogs with 3 collars on and I'm not sure if that's going to be a problem or not. Obviously the garmin alpha track/train unit would be a better option, but I'm not paying $800 for a collar and I like my astro 220 far too much to get rid of it.

Thanks

I have an astro & tri tronics g3 I use the same collar. I don't use traditional tracking collar but they shouldn't interfere with your tracking collar give garmin a call, but I would actually call sport dog they make & sell e collars gps collars & traditional tracking collars customer service is great.

But to answer your question, I have had some of my pheasant guide buddies who said that they each had a collar to go on the fritz in the cold but it could have been water exposure.. Garmin quality has been slowly slipping the past couple of years. Damn shame, I love me some Garmin.

Garmin bought Tri-tronics. I have heard nothing but good reviews from the latest Astros but I have no first hand experience...

I run Dogtra's but next time I have to upgrade it will be to Artros unless something comes out better...

I'm wondering about having two big arse collars on my dog at the same time along with his regular collar. The astro tracking unit is pretty big and the 550 pro shock collar is pretty damned big also. I'm a little concerned about them beating each other up and if it'll work worth a damn. Just seems like a whole lot of collar to have on a dog at one time.

The rents want to buy me a rifle for my graduation present, but I'd much rather have a nice shock collar.

One collar is his regular collar with a name tag? Why not have a name tag added to the one of the electric collars ?

Also have you thought about selling the current astro and upgrading to the new astro?

a salt rifle?

But yeah, if you wait a couple of weeks they will be on sale on Cabela's website. I only use tritronics these days, the remotes are more durable than they used to be.

I'm planning on investing in a couple new units come bird season if I have some extra scratch.

That was the first plan. The shock/track alpha is an $800 collar and my astro is probably only worth 2 or 3 hundred. Still an option.

Thought about that too. I really like the lead collar that I have and would prefer to keep it on them if I can.

I'm sold on garmin/tritronics stuff. My tracking collar has been very adequately abused and has never given me any trouble.

That alpha 100 is

But holy shite that is a pile of damned money

I don't know about the specific collars you are looking at, but I don't think they should interfere with each other. Just make sure the antennas are internal, if the antennas are imbedded in the collar you may have a problem. I run my beagles with a shock collar, and a regular collar with a bell attached (handiest damn thing ever), a big coon hound should be fine with a few collars if a beagle can run all day with all that.

My tracking collar has an external antenna and the shock collar has an internal.

They have a ton of neck on them so there's room for about 6 collars there. I'm thinking it would be fine. Was kinda hoping one of those bird hunters had tried stacking collars on their dogs

My buddy has a tracking collar as well and it's a similar size to the shock collar. I might put that on there just to see what it looks like.

Ran mine with E=collar, tracking collar, and regular collar without a problem. Kinda gets tight on smaller dogs(gyp). What kinda coonhounds you got?

Have a walker right now that I was trying out. He's going back tomorrow he's not quite what I'm looking for.

I've been through about 8 walkers in the last 6 months. Still haven't found exactly what I want. Thinking about getting a pup of some flavor and starting from ground zero.

Good hunting dogs are hard to find. I can't begin to tell you the number of beagles I've had over the last 12 years trying to get a good pack of 3-4 rabbit beagles. I've managed to get one that I really like and one more that I like well enough to take on 9/10 hunts. Now they are starting to get some age on them.

No doubt. It doesn't help that my friend has a grand night champion that is about 90% accurate. That's what I have to constantly compare my dogs to

I will get a damn good coon dog. I'm either going to happen upon a good deal on one of these test drives or I'll buy one when I can afford it. shite I'm deep enough in equipment that I'm past the point of no return.

Beagles are hard to get. For some reason they're all short and fat these days. I like a long legged beagle that can put some pressure on em.
