My advice is spend the money on a good one. It's far more enjoyable. I learned that shite the hard way. I would have been better paying out the arse for 4 solid rabbit beagles than trying to make something out of cheap ones. The two I've dropped a good bit of money on run circles around everything else I have, the rest just kind of barks and follows the two actually running the rabbit.

I like my beagles short and stocky, I'm not the best shot so if a rabbit ain't moving at Mach 10 I'm much more likely to kill it.

I like a beagle that us short. They are easier to catch.

You can put more than one rig on one collar. Just thread them on the same one.

Or you could just get a dog that comes when you call it. You are better off getting the rifle and do what ole coot would do. Weed em out.

I really need to get a damn shock collar. Absolutely nothing on earth burns my arse like a dog that doesn't come when I call it. I'll come close to cooting them when I call and they start doing that little bullshite bark like "hey I can't come right now I'm running stuff" and I have to walk all the way to a bullshite tree to catch them.

It'll be more than worth the price of a good collar for me to be able to light them up like a light bulb when that happens. Blood PSI is going up just talking about it

Honestly the one I have right now I don't know. A few were insane cane crosses and I can't even remember what the other ones were. I've been going through them like drawers.

I don't really check the pedigree on the "finished" dogs because I don't care at that point. I only worry about it with the pups.

I always had good luck with wipeout bred dogs and they doing a lot of winning recently.

Do you hunt Ukc or pkc?

All the ones I've had were UKC and PKC registered. I've never been to a competition hunt and nothing I had had any business being at one.

I'd like to at least be able to make the big UKC hunt in Amite next year and see what it's all about. The people I know who've done it a good bit don't seem to talk very highly of competition hunting

On another note, the parents are cool with buying me an alpha 100 track/shock instead of a rifle, which is fricking fantastic because I don't need a rifle. I'll have an astro 220 for sale pretty soon.

Shock collars are probably the single greatest invention for hound hunters. That being said, I have one beagle who won't leave a rabbit track even if shocked. Have had to get that short legged bastard out of many thickets.

No doubt. Nothing like being able to plant your boot in your dogs arse from 900 yards away.

I'd like to have one for obedience training my tracking dogs also.

Shock collars have saved a many of dogs from getting "cooted". I also like the ones with the beep feature, all of my dogs will stop dead in their tracks from just a beep these days. Haven't had to shock one in years.

Usually several reasons for that- It can leave a bad taste in your mouth if you go somewhere and get screwed by the people.(I've never had a problem with losing to other dogs.) We won't talk about the others.
Depending on where you hunt and the people that you hunt with, it can be a lot of fun. But with that being said, I preferred just pleasure hunting with buddies. I wish you luck finding a dog.

I'm sure I'll have fun because I don't really give a shite if I win or loose anything. I want a meat dog that handles good and is fun to hunt with and if he happens to do decent, great. I just like hunting dogs.

When I was a little kid we had a really good black and tan that we used to run deer. He was badass and I've always wanted another one, so I think I'm going to be shopping a little harder for a black and tan pup now that summer is here and I have time to work with one before the leaves come off again.

Happy hunting. Perhaps we'll run into each other at a competition next year
