Why is prostitution illegal?

Lots of arguments in favor of abortion give the reasoning "a women should be able to do anything with her body". Why then, are so many people (conservative and liberal alike) against women doing what they want with their bodies and having sex for money? It's legal when it's filmed (porn) so why the f--- is it not legal otherwise? I'm talking well-regulated, taxed, brothels, and obviously no underage women.
Our government needs to stop trying to legislate personal morals.

If I remember right some of the first abortion laws were passed to try and stop the spread of STD's. It then turned into a morality thing.

Believe it or not this is kind of important to me. To me it's a gross violation of freedom to ban something as harmless as having sex for money.

Apples and oranges IMO. One is a safety issue, the other is a "you can't do this because it's not socially ok" issue.
