It's this a scam?

My wife lost her Iphone about 10 months ago in Alabama (we are in baton rouge). I put a lock on the phone and a message to call me for a reward if found. Well 10 months later (today) I get a call from a "no called id" number from a male asking me to call this (205) area code concerning the iphone. I call and a lady answers and says her husband bought it and didn't know it was stolen. Message popped up and he called me. But since then (1hour) he's been put in jail and she needs money to bail him out. She would like the reward that I was posted on the phone.

I will be driving through Alabama on friday I would like my wife's phone back if at all possible. Should I call her back and offer her $100 for finding the phone? Am I going to get butt raped. Should I just write it off as a loss . FYI it's a Iphone 5 but I don't know the condition. I've also had it blacklisted from ATT which I assume I can get it off blacklist by going to the ATT store.

I'd meet in a public place and give the $100 if it's in good shape.

Dude it's just a phone. frick that. Is your life worth $300? (If it's even a new model phone to begin with)

same here. 100 is cheap to get it back if it is in good working order and good shape.

There is an allure to the possibility of danger to this one. That is more attractive than the phone probably.

Avoid the heck out of that situation.

Did I see someone was in jail? Not the kind of people you want to meet.

I'd obviously go to a public place armed.. I'll have my wife with me as well and she would also be armed.. but I really don't want to get into a shootout with anyone.

Just got another call from Alabama.. this time a lady claiming to be the mother in law.. She said said the police are currently have the phone. She said she will call me back with the info.

How does this work in backwoods alabama. Can I just show up and unlock the phone and they will give it to me. I am pretty sure we filed a police report with the serial # .

Why not take the offensive in this situation?

Meet her and pull a gun and take your phone back. If she gives you any shite, shoot her.

It's as easy as that.

Just get the number of the police department with the phone and call them.

I called the police department and they claim they don't have the phone. I'll call again tomorrow morning since they may not have booked it into evidence yet.

Either way I am writing this off as a lost phone. Thanks for everyone's input.

The fact that you have to ask questions about this speaks volumes.

Too slow, why not just western union the money? I hear it's good for cases like this, and entirely safe for you.
