Chattanooga's super-fast publicly owned Internet

I was unaware that Chattanooga had made the switch to fiber. I understand that the major prohibitors to introducing to a city are setting up the infrastructure. Sounds like you have to run fiber to every single household to get on the grid.
Are there any other cities currently doing this. I would happily pay $70 for 1 gig per sec.

People don't really realize this, but Chattanooga's making lots of moves to become a little eastern Silicon Valley. Upgrading infrastructure like this, racking up some nice amenities... they recently even began giving tax breaks/homebuying incentives for engineers and other technical professionals.
Fairly close to Atlanta, Knoxville and Nashville. You kinda wish all local governments busted their arse like they are to be something great.

Yeah, that's kind of ridiculous. Their slower plans are very reasonable, though. I'd take 40x40 for $50.
Edited out the part about LUSFiber paying back loans at an accelerated rate. Not sure where I read that or if I made it up.

Very progressive of them though. All the big cities should be doing this.

They did it over 5 years ago.
Let that sink in for a little bit. It was in place long before anyone heard the term Google Fiber.
That goes to show how shitty our internet infrastructure is. Net Neutrality will only allow it to become shittier compared to the rest of the world.

Yeah, they are really marketing the city as "tech friendly" by calling it the "Gig City" and focusing on the fiber internet. I've heard of quite a few companies moving or opening in Chattanooga.

Several cities in Metro Atlanta, including East Point, College Park, Hapeville, and Decatur, are currently working with Google to have Google Fiber installed.
