Those houses are fricked

I live behind a reservoir, and the helicopters have been coming non-stop to collect water to dump on the flames.

The helicopters have to come up north a bit because the sky is black in San Diego county.

I've only had to evacuate once in the years I've lived here. I couldn't imagine watching an unstoppable inferno engulf my house.

We're getting smoke and smoke warnings in L.A. right now. They issued a press release letting people know the smoke is from San Diego and there are no fires in L.A.

, I'm many many miles from any fire. But the air quality is china-esque right now.

It's an awful feeling. I remember watching my grandma's house burn. All you can do is sit there and watch the fire devour all those memories.

Believe it or not, fires are natural in the chaparral climate. Nature provides it through lighting strikes, and the fires clear away shrub and return nutrients to the soil. When we constantly prevent these fires from happening, the shrub gets so dense and overgrown that the fires are ten times worse than they should be.

I grew up in the San Diego foothills (Lakeside), my brother still lives there ,got a sister in Pt. Loma. As a teenager we did a lot of mop-up duty when the fires would come through. I lost several classmate in a fire several years back.

I live in Pt. Loma. Fires are about 30 miles north of us but I was in Carlsbad today and the Pendleton fires are nasty.

Our firm has an office not far from the airport and we got an email the other day from the SVP out there letting everyone know that the staff was safe, but it was an urgent evacuation, some people left on foot and walked to the airfield.

Crazy.

When I first witnessed a brush fire, I couldn't believe how fast it moved. A lot of people see a fire in the distance and assume they are safe. Sooner than you know it, your house is black ash.
