Forgive me OT, for I did not pass 1st Grade Math

...and I'm not smarter than a 5th grader. I've done this problem 20 times. How do I arrive at 10?
The answer is 10. I just need to know how to get there.
Yes, yes, I'm dumb. You're smart blah blah blah. I've done 50 other word problems this morning an I don't know why I can't come to 10 here.

Subtract 40 from 160 then divide by 12.

12 pairs of gloves a week into surplus X 10 = 120 + 40+ 160

You guys need to use units in your calculations, because all it looks like to me is you used the convenience of knowing the answer to derive the calculations.

x = number of weeks
40 + 48x - 36x = 160
48x - 36x = 120
12x = 120
x = 10
40 + 48x - 36x = 160
48x - 36x = 120
12x = 120
x = 10
