Railroads are notorious for basically just saying gfy in projects like this. There was a big hang up in the project before because they would have impacted a lot of the condos parking and had to change the project around, but that was years ago, kind of out of the loop now.

i also noticed recently that staring lane STILL isnt done. I mean come on. Someone asked two months ago why they hadnt opened it up and the response was "the concrete has to cure".

How long does that take?

You would think the railroad would be PRO fixing the intersection considering that it's more than just an "inconvenience" to them when trucks get stuck. They're shut down.

ROW issues with railroads are time consuming to work through, as are ROW issues with those businesses around there. Design might be mostly done, but I'd guess there's still a lot of paperwork left.

I think you can drive on it after 7 days, but to fully cure is 28. I don't know if I'm remembering that right from school...I'm not on the construction side of things.

You've never worked with a rail company. As someone else in this thread said, their usual stance is gfy.

Technically, I don't think concrete ever stops curing. But after 28 days the strength increase is minimal.

Here we are over a year later

My freshman year was in 2003. The city was already expanding I-10 south of the I-12 split. That project is still ongoing.

Why are you so surprised?

The City wasn't doing that, the State was.

Pretty sure yea. It's been done.

It also didn't begin anywhere near 2003

Railroad involved.

Takes a year to get a permit.

With a can of paint and a roller, they could make the intersection 100x better in one afternoon. Make the "right turn lanes" to "through lanes" and the current "through lanes" into "left turn lanes". BOOM.

I have never understood why they don't do this. along with some flashing yellow lights and a lane shift sign it would be a simple fix that would solve most of the problem without getting the railroad involved. its not like this is an intersection that trucks regularly fly though. a gradual lane shift should not be a problem for anyone.

All that needs to be done for a temporary fix is change the traffic signal phasing.

Ding ding. I have posted this for probably 8 years now. It is the easiest fix to alleviate the safety issue until the grander fix could be put in

The amount of frustration I have encountered at that intersection over my time...

It makes absolutely no sense to me.

s there a larger GLP project on either Nicholson or Brightside/Lee?

Yes, they making Nicholson 4 lanes from Brightside/Nicholson down to Walk-ons. But smallest portion of these 2 projects is the light/intersection. And I understand it takes time with railroads...but this is getting ridiculous.

Maybe they just need to design a loop around the intersection to speed process.

The first part is right, but the 28 days is for how much the contractor is going to be paid. Breaking concrete cylinders is what I do for a living.
