In what some might see as an oxymoron, an advocacy group apparently is preparing to ask the Defense Department to appoint a chaplain -- for atheists.

Atheists whining again

A chaplain who endorses a belief of futility and emptiness in a group with one of the highest rates of suicide in the country (ETA for the dumbs: referring to the military).

I can imagine a young kid stubbing his toe and asking for some comfort only to be met with this:

What's an Atheist Chaplain to say?

"Son, you about dead, and that's that. Good luck a as worm food. Can I have your phone once you kick it?"

The suicide rate comment is about the military. Not atheists.

Good job having terrible reading comprehension and whining about others whining.

Why would this bother anyone? And why shouldn't atheist have someone that they can talk to that share their beliefs in confidence?

Yeah, sounds like this is more of a morale and mental health issue. But since the creation of such position would have absolutely no negative effect whatsoever on any Christians, I can totally see why they're so against it.

You should make that clear, because it isn't in your post

This has nothing to do with Christianity. This has to do with Atheists acting evangelical when they claim "no beliefs". This has to do with psuedo-intellectual neck beards counseling the military members of today who are killing themselves at very high rates.

Why do you care if one atheist talks to another atheist?

This is absurd. Plenty of psychologists in the military. Chaplains exist to give the people things that only their religion can give them. An atheist cannot get anything more from a chaplain.

In response, Republicans offered up a measure of their own to prohibit the Pentagon from naming such a chaplain. The House approved the measure in July.

I'm sure the Republicans were just pandering to their Sikh and Hindu base.

Ask the atheist's parents that question at his funeral after he blows his head off.
