Buying New Washer/Dryer

Looking to buy a new washer and dryer soon and tried looking at reviews and rankings online, but after reading the customer reviews it seems as if no one is satisfied with their purchase.
Anyone recently purchased machines they are satisfied with? Also, thoughts on going with top loader or front loading machines?

I prefer top loading washers. Makes way more sense from a failure standpoint IMO. I have an older set of Kenmore Elites that have treated me right.

I got a used set on craigslist for a few hundred bucks. Don't know what kind they are but they work and didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

Go front load. More efficient and they look cooler.

Bought the Maytag Centennial washer and dryer about 2 years ago. zero problems as of yet.

Bought maytag bravos washer (top loader) and dryer last year. No problems as of yet and they work good. Maytag seems to make the best quality washer and dryers. I looked at alot of brands and they seem to have the best reviews.

We just bought a Maytag top loader set and my wife loves them. Threw out the 7 year old GE.

I have this LG set and they are a beast. Look just as good as any front load set and controls are on front. They can do huge loads too. Dryer has a water connection for a wrinkle free steam setting. The look/perform great.

Not if you take care of them. I clean mine once a month and let it air out between loads to make sure it dries before I close the door. I've not had a problem yet, but I was told the same thing so I've tried to prevent it from becoming an issue.

Samsung front loader, buy the pedestals...ignore the groans about front loaders stinking, don't be an idiot and close the door right after you pull a load out.

Buy the cheapest washer you can.
It will last the longest. Do not get a front load unit.
They look good and save on power, but man they break, and they cost a lot to fix.
Everyday I get asked what is the "best" and if you aren't going with a ultra -high end product, then just get the cheapest you can find.
Why?
The cheapest items use old proven technology and parts. I can fix most older dryers for $100 and washers for around that. My average repair charge for a LG or Samsung is $250. But it can be much highers. While a tranny swap at $320 is the absolute highest priced repair on an old style unit.
But hey, people who want the best looking appliances is why my job is lucrative. SO get what you like.

My top load doesn't stink and I don't have to do any of that

And I see 30 year old Kenmores all the time that just need a belt or a $2o part to keep going.

Can't speak for Samsung, but we love our LG front load washer and dryer.

Maytag is Whirlpool now.
Maytag is far from the best quality and their electronics and motors are problematic.
As while they are whirlpool for laundry, they still sub out many parts to be different.
But make no mistake it's FSP parts all inside. But Maytag today, isn't the Iowa Maytag of 10 years ago.
I have an LG front load washer right now, and a Whirlpool front load style dryer. But I got them for free, and I don't care about coordinating my laundry room.
I will say that a taken care of LG will last, but I just know that I really hate the idea that if the control breaks it will cost me wholesale $240 for a new one.

I bought the cheapest I could find with the extra large tub 8 years ago and haven't had any problems yet. My friend is on his 3rd front load over the same timeframe.
