re: Replacing Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Dectector - LSUEEAlum
In east Baton Rouge parish ( maybe a state law not sure) in all new builds you have to have a smoke detector inside every bedroom hard wired in and a smoke/carbon monoxide detector outside of every bedroom hard wired in if you have gas in your house. You definitely need to have CO detectors if you h...

My point exactly. Except if your number is accurate then I made a terrible mistake going to school for engineering....

re: All Those Arts Majors Can't Find Jobs.... Oh Wait - LSUEEAlum
People think that they have to go to a 4 year university to amount to anything. That simply is not true. Kids should be informed about going to a technical college and learning a trade. You get out of school nearly debt free and can make very good money right out of school. I mean they are willing ...

re: anyone here trapped in a high paying job? - LSUEEAlum
I feel like this is me. I really can't stand my job most of the time. Bad part is I feel trapped and I'm only 29. I just don't really know what else I could do and make the same kind of money....

re: Salary Question for OT O&G Engineers - LSUEEAlum
I work for an design engineering firm in Baton Rouge. I'm personally doing work for a chemical company but we also aren't slowing down on work for our refinery clients either. To th OP what is your discipline and how many years experience do you have? I'm guessing you work for a firm like myself? I ...

Did it last year. I used dr. Woo. She's one of the best in Baton Rouge. Don't go cheap. I paid $2399 total....

re: Salary Question for OT O&G Engineers - LSUEEAlum
in my mind, you should be paid the market rate for engineers with your level of experience in similar roles
This. Do you not know what other people make? It's not politically correct to talk salary but you gotta have a round about idea of what others are getting paid....

re: Flood insurance rate increases - LSUEEAlum
My dad just got his and the samething. He called his ins company and they got in touch with FEMA. They said it was a mistake. Apparently letters were suppose to go out asking to confirm if it is your primary residence. My dad never got his. So FEMA defaulted to it not being his primary residence. Wh...

Millennial checking in: married with a child, 29 years old (both me and my wife, sorry no pics), go to church every Sunday, don't live with my parents, combined income north of 150k per year. I know a lot of people like me. The country is not screwed. The articles need to stop. It's bs....

re: ACT scores are horse sh*t - LSUEEAlum
ACT > GPA hands down for judging how smart someone is or who can get a job done.
I'll disagree. I was ranked top 10 in my graduating class by gpa. I made a 18 on my ACT. In 2003 that was enough to get me tops and into lsu so I never took it again. I graduated in EE with a 3.4 ...

re: Anyone have experience getting out of Flood Insurance? - LSUEEAlum
quote: If you're in a flood zone, I think you are required to have flood insurance This is correct.
Not entirely true. If you are in a flood zone but have a flood elevation certificate stating you are above BFE, then you can apply for a LOMA ( letter of map amendment) with FEMA. ...

re: Engineered Wood floors - LSUEEAlum
Just built a house in 2013. Half the house is travertine and the other half is engineered wood. I chose hickory because it's harder and less likely to get damaged. Builder told me pine was the in thing but with kids and a dog I went with a harder wood. Also went with hand scraped. Floor still looks ...

Correct. I wouldn't think any of the inside would be done yet. Probably doesn't even have drywall up yet. Just guessing though from what I saw from the road....

re: Met a personal financial milestone today! - LSUEEAlum
Lol. It seems like that would be almost impossible to get to 100k before you are 25. I should be at 100k by the end of next year. I'll be 31. I think I'm doing ok. I'm sure that's well ahead of the avg person....
