Ruger sr9c. Buy from Academy or local dealer?

Got some gift cards to cash in to Academy and am wanting a Ruger sr9c. But I have purchased some guns (more than 1) from Academy that had to be sent back to manufacturer for QC issues. Should I burn these cards on some other hunting crap I need & buy the Ruger from a gun shop, or just buy from Academy? I don't care about paying the extra 20-40$ if the service/weapon will be better from a local dealer.
Also, who would be the best to buy from in Hammond/Baton Rouge area?

I have always liked the service at Jim's Firearms. They do mark up prices $20-40 but I would say it is worth the kind service.

Ruger just sends out their pistols to their dealers. They don't pick and choose which ones go to different places so you'll get the same thing no matter what.
And if you have quality issues, you can always send it back to Ruger. Good companies stand behind their product.

I don't mind paying more at mom & pop places. I like the personal touch, and I love giving them my business.

I usually have pawn shops buy my guns...work out a markup over cost and they order it

They all come from the same distributors

Most Rugers come straight from Lipsey's distributors which is in BR in the Industriplex! They're the old Steinberg family. Largest Ruger distributor in the country!

I saw a Kimber Custom II for 1100 and you can get them for around 850 online.
If it was only 20-40 more then I would buy local in a heartbeat.

shite my buddy thought I was going to get an amazing deal on a S&W M&P 15 Sport for 600. I asked what he paid for his at a local store.... He said 1300...

Jim's is significantly more expensive than other stores. They're all the same guns, so buy the cheapest

I'd go Academy. You already have some credit there.

Im so confused by this. Are you saying you believe that Ruger (or any manufacturer) has the power to dictate which dealers get the lemons and which dealers get the guns that operate fine?

Multiply that by about 5

Obvious solution -- don't buy any more cheap guns.
M&P, Glock, SIG or HK = good choices. Cery hard to buy one that's defective.
Kel-Tec, Sigma (or newer variants like their SD), baby Rugers, Diamondback, Hi Pernts, Charter, Taurus, etc. = lower tier guns (despite what your neighbor may have said and despite what you may hear or read on this forum).

I've bought two Marlins (.22 and 30-30) and a Henry .22 from Academy. All had to go back to manufacturer within a week for a defect. Maybe just coincidence, but that's why I was hesitant to go back to a "big box" store again. When I get my CC permit and get more serious about carrying, I will upgrade. Love my uncle's HK, and will probably go that route.
