He was talking about Blazing Saddles.

quote:

"They can't make that movie today because everybody's so politically correct. You know, the NAACP would stop a great movie that would do such a great service to black people because of the N-word," says Brooks. "You've got to really examine these things and see what's right and what's wrong. Politically correct is absolutely wrong. Because it inhibits the freedom of thought. I'm so lucky that they weren't so strong then and that the people that let things happen on the screen weren't so powerful then. I was very lucky."

Political correctness is a disease in our society IMO.

Yeah but something tells me Mel Brooks is most likely a card carrying member of the Democrat party.

Political correctness is a way to silence people, and a clear and present danger to the constitution, and a weapon for the left. They know what's best for you better than anyone, and if you ain't towing their line, they will find a way to silence you; whether its Political correctness, Homophobia, racism, or the IRS....They will find a way.

That was a great movie

Brooks is right - it does inhibit freedom of thought b/c we're always concerned about what others will think. Certainly there is a double standard in comedy.

In other words - the blacks don't know what's good for them.

Where have we heard this before?

Has anyone ever heard Randy Newman whine about how he couldn't make "Rednecks" today?

That's ok. We need the return of rational Democrats just like the Republican party needs this libertarian break to move forward.

As for spaceballs - I'll take a pre-quel. Heck if he wants to take the original and ad some scenes and special effects - the way it was originally intended - that would be cool, too!

What percentage of blacks do you think would say that the NAACP represents them and their views? From my experiences, probably not as many as the NAACP believes.

Yes! That's exactly what I meant! Thank you for weeding through everything else rational dems have contributed (admittedly, not much) and summarizing exactly what I meant to say.

Yes, I think it was on one of his ACL shows...but he wasn't "whining" about it, just like Mel wasn't. But I would imagine Randy's not crazy about the quashing of satire as social commentary...
