Headed to Greece & Turkey and need recs on where to eat in Athens, Tourlos on the island of Mykanos, & Perissa on the island of Santorini as well as Istanbul. Noted a couple of places on tripadvisor but I respect the FDB's opinion over TA. Cheers!

I are at a good place in athens in the Psyrra neighborhood. They owned a vineyard and made their own wine. That neighborhood has lots of taverns to eat in. Consult tripadvisor as well

Eating in Greece was a little tricky. Places that looked great (like a seafood shack right on the water) often had frozen seafood (!) or were totally tourist traps.

Mykonos: There is an Italian place in the old city that makes pasta out on the street. Go there, it is excellent. Sorry I can't be more specific, directions are useless in that town.

Santorini: the food for the most part is expensive and touristy. Get out of Thira and go to Oia. At the very tip of the island there is a hotel where everyone goes to watch the sunset. Get there at around 4:30pm, order a bottle of delicious minerally Assyrtiko wine and get some apps. Also highly recommend a winery tour while in Santorini.

Get the cuddlefish in ink over pasta.

As far as istanbul goes, you should try a few things: turkish coffee, kebabs, turkish pizza, and simit, which is like a bagel you buy from the street carts. Also, eat a fish sandwich at one of the numerous restaurants under the Galeta bridge.

This is true.

I visited a few places from Rick Steves' book and was never disappointed.

Reading rick Steve's is a good idea. The Istanbul book was pretty helpful.
