Hamburger chef Jamie Oliver has won his long-fought battle against one of the largest fast food chains in the world – McDonalds. After Oliver showed how McDonald’s hamburgers are made, the franchise finallyannounced that it will change its recipe, and yet there was barely a peep about this in the mainstream, corporate media.

Oliver repeatedly explained to the public, over several years – in documentaries, television shows and interviews – that the fatty parts of beef are “washed” in ammonium hydroxide and used in the filling of the burger. Before this process, according to the presenter, the food is deemed unfit for human consumption. According to the chef and hamburger enthusiast, Jamie Oliver, who has undertaken a war against the fast food industry, “Basically, we’re taking a product that would be sold in the cheapest way for dogs, and after this process, is being given to human beings.”

Besides the low quality of the meat, the ammonium hydroxide is harmful to health. Oliver famously coined this the “the pink slime process.”

Reportedly McDonald's in Latin America, UK, and Ireland use real beef from local suppliers.

Simple explanation: because it takes no effort and is cheap.

Majority of this country works and has a "ain't nobody got time for that" attitude towards making a decent meal.

I don't see the problem here. From the dawn of time people have been taking food unfit for consumption and improving it until it's just fine.

That's why they wash it off after the job is done.

Lol I reluctantly posted this. A simple Google search shows this has been reported numerous times over the last few months apparently.

Eh, most of the chemicals we use on a daily basis are "harmful" in some way or another. Take a look at an MSDS sheet if you really want to know details. From watching a lot of episodes of how it's made, much of the food industry uses chemicals in some way or another during manufacturing, we just don't hear about it often.

Exactly. No one is hitting up McD's with an expectation of quality ingredients. At least, they shouldn't be.

No, but I do think it's in the public interest that the ingredients be suitable for human consumption and not washed in some sort of toxic hydroxide
