Yamaha 250 saltwater series 2 ox66. Runs fine but won't get past 4800 rpm. Usually tops out at 56-5700. Ran sea foam through it and no change Ran it for the whole weekend burning about 25 gals. Should have been enough to clean it out if it was some gunk in the fuel system I would think. Any ideas?

do the basics first
fuel filter,wster seperator,
sparkplugs.
check the compression on all of the cylinders make sure one of them isnt weak.

the 0x66 is a great outboard
unless your name is alx

It's been great. Starts on the first crank every time. It ran perfect the last time we ran it last year. Gave us this problem the first time we ran it this year.

First thing I would check is your prop, make sure it not bent and the ports on the prop are open if you have some.

Prop is fine. Motor idles and runs fine at the lower rpm so it doesn't seem to be the plugs or a problem with ignition in a cylinder. Has all it's power jumping out the hole and it didn't decrease max rpm over time so I doubt it to be low compression on a cylinder. It seems to me like a fuel issue but I don't know where to start on this motor. If it was carbureted I would have pulled them and cleaned them. Not sure how the fuel ingection system works.

Also we just changed the fuel water separator before the first trip.

I'd look back over your work. If it worked fine last year and then you worked on it before you used it this year; you may have messed something up or installed a bad part

Edit to say- I'm not a mechanic by in means, but have been known to screw my shite up at times.

Did you remove the prop? check the shaft? - it is either restricted or loading up.

Is the temp running hot? or the same as normal

old gas? what kind of gas are you using?

Check all of your fuel lines. I had similar issue with mine the lines were corroding from inside. Couldn't get max fuel flow, changed fuel lines then ran like a champ

It had half a tank from last fall. Topped off with premium. Could be fuel lines or an issue with the new fuel water seperator or installation of it. I'll start there

Get a six gallon tank with high octane good gas maybe put some seafoam in it too and try it out if it runs fine and you are hitting rpms you know it is in your fuel lines, if it does the same shite u know it is not.

If it does the same shite, maybe something electrical like stattor, fuel pump switch powerpack etc.

I had one do this a few years back and it was just bad gas, once I burned tank off it was fine.

Your high speed jets could be gummed up

This is your problem or the tank vent line is plugged. Next time running it, open the fuel tank fill cap to see if you are not getting a vacuum in your tank.

Same here, had same problem on one engine. After changing fuel filters and plugs still had problem, changed gas same problem. changed out fuel lines on both as a shot in the dark and problem solved.

If it wasn't broke why did you do this?

The old one rusted through. It had to be replaced.

So y'all just dump the contents of the filter and reuse? I thought that made sense, but "knowledgable" buddies said replace it.
