I ate there Saturday after playing basketball with some friends. I'd heard good things about it but my meal was kind of disappointing.

I really don't like restaurants where you have to order your food at the counter. It just feels so rushed, but it's not a deal breaker if the meal is good. The lamb burger looked decent
(Feta, house basil mayonnaise, red onions, and chili mint glaze) so I ordered that with a side of tots and an iced tea.

$18.00. Seemed really high, but whatever. Paid the nice cashier worker and waited for my name to be called.

The burger was kind of small and flavorless. Just not seasoned well. In fact, all I could taste, and see, was the chili mint sauce; which tasted like chili and not mint. The bun became very soggy because of the sauce and while the burger was edible, it wasn't very good. Tots were...tots.

For me, it was a bad deal for $18 and I think we'll be hitting up Dat Dog next time we play ball.

You have higher service expectations then I do at a burger joint.

I agree, I've found their burgers to be excessively greasy(on occasion) which ruins the bun. They have solid flavoring on the burgers but their grease level is too high for me. I eat there maybe 1 every 6 months.

Cowbell is the gold standard. IMO.

ETA: Feels like forever since we've had a burger thread here.

Eh, I've had hamburgers about a million different ways. I wanted something different and I love a good lamb burger when it's done right.

It's a pet peeve, but one that's not a deal breaker. Just don't like the standing and quickly reading a menu while the cashier keeps asking "are you ready?" That and I was tired from playing ball for a few hours.

Interesting. I've had the lamb burger there twice and really liked it. Also liked the beef.

I do think Cowbell is better, but I almost consider it a different category for some reason.

I love Company Burger. Top 3 burger joint in the city for me. But I agree their lamb burger is nothing special - a little on the bland side (they need to add some fat to the burger somehow). It also suffers from only having one thin patty as opposed to the company burger which has two and is a perfect patty to bun ratio, not to mentioned fatty, cheesy, perfectly salty and very delicious.

The counter service doesn't bother me at all. In fact I prefer that at a burger joint to having a waitress. Makes things faster and casual. Could live without the mayo bar becuase I don't think mayo belong on a burger .. but love their bring your own lettuce and tomato policy because I don't really care for those on a burger either. Company does my favorite flat top style around.

Love me some Company Burger. Single no pickles and side of tots is one of my favorite lunches. They usually cook it about just on the rare side of medium. I eat the burger and let the drippings fall on the tots. They also sell 6 oz beers, which is a good amount for lunch.

Cowbell > Company Burger.

Neither are cheap, but just do not get the Company Burger hype. I didn't dislike my meal, but for that price, no way. It's barely better than hitting up Five Guys.

Id really like to know what people think a restaurant that is making a fresh ground patty with a non-industrial bun should be charging for a burger?

There is a prevailing notion that things like burgers, pizza, and ethnic foods have to be cheap. Which is just an insane thought when you think about it.

Id imagine the straight food cost at both Company Burger and Cowbell is about $3-4 dollars per burger. Add on insurance, rent, labor, electricity, and all the other things a restaurant needs to pay for plus a little bit of profit and there is your price. Burgers are a volume game, in general. But for everything who thinks they are getting ripped off with a $9 hamburger, I'd like to hear what you think would be a fair price.

I dunno but I feel like I get what I paid for at Dickie Brennan's Steak House when I order a burger. I feel like I'm getting raped at Cowbell.

Im ok with the prices at Company these days. I remember when they first opened, they were very very skimpy with the side order portion. Like i think i counted 4 onion rings one time.

I don't know if people complained or what, but these days a double plus a side order is very filling, and worth the money to me.
