How legitimate is this site? Accurate and safe?
I've only gotten reports through equifax and Transperian previously, which are credit agencies and obviously legit and safe, but getting free reports is awfully tempting...
MTB Thoughts?

You connect your accounts (like mint) and I think they do a soft pull to get basic info. They use that to generate a score that should be close to your credit scores. It's just an estimate but it helps to keep track of things and watch how different changes affect the "score"

I use it. I don't have any accounts connected however.

I used to use it. When you connect the accounts, it will update more frequently because it will know your utilization.

Certain situations it can't track well but it gives you a decent approximation and/or at least will give you a heads up that something is horribly wrong if someone tries opening a bunch of accounts

pretty accurate for me anyway. I've used CK for the last few years.
recently applied for a mortgage, got sent my FICO which was within 1 point of the CK score.

its a close estimate of what your real fico score would be most of the time. personal experience, CK and CS both showed my score 50+ points lower than my actual ficos. ymmv

Pretty handbook on the iPhone, like others said it can be about 50 points off of your score high or low. Mine shows 50 lower than it actually is and my wife's is 25 off of it.

quote:CK had my score at 722, but Discover had/has it at 792. Huge difference, but like Teddy said, it's good to keep a heads up on changes.

Discover and CK each only use one of the three reporting bureaus, which would explain a big difference. There might be something wrong or missing on one or the other.

I use CreditKarma (which uses TransUnion) and get my TransUnion FICO score with my Discover IT card and they're nowhere close in my case. Credit Karma is a good way to track your credit but don't depend on it for your FICO score. It's all about how they weigh the different categories in their scoring model.

Just signed up for this. My score was about 50 points less than my FICO, like a few others have mentioned.

Meh, doesn't sound like its worth the trouble if it's not even your actual score, just a simulation...

It's also useful to ensure no funny business is going on. The score might be +/- 20 points but it's still a great (and free) starting point. I like to see my credit utilization and read their (paid advertising) advice on how to refinance to save money.

I've got Mint to monitor all of my open accounts and see where I stand on spending and the likes and then I've got a fraud alert on my credit report, so I don't have to worry about any new activity.
I knew it was too good to be true that you'd get a real credit report for free, just didn't know what the catch was.
But for others who aren't on top of their finances, this seems like a good tool.
