I currently just have them sitting in a window in my kitchen in a jar of water/miracle gro and they seem to grow pretty slow. Would they do better outside actually planted in dirt?

Yes. Get a 2 gallon planter..... fill it will soil and let them rip. Full sun if possible and keep them a littlenon the dry side. They are very easy to.

Poke em in the ground.....they'll take off. Place along a sidewalk edge or flower bed, somewhere near the kitchen.

Outside in the dirt.
I can't think of anything I've grown that doesn't do better outside in the ground.

I tried to do the whole water thing once. if you leave them in there too long they begin to rot
