Both are great, but La Barbecue is much quicker and wins in my book.

Both are insanely trendy right now, so the hipsters flock to them.

If you want real BBQ, you need to take a drive. The 2 best around are Louie Mullers in Taylor and Coopers out in Llano. Coopers is a haul, but it's a nice drive and well worth it.

I love the joint for what it is. Neat place. But, I can't say it's knee-buckling BBQ.

the only comment I can make about this is that the people that work at franklin and the concrete in their parking lot is nice.

I gave up after standing in line for about 3 hours

my office is about 6 blocks from La BBQ.....pretty freaking special. I think it's every bit as good as Franklin, but no better either.

....except I dont have to wait in line

I'm curios to see how the new Blacks does once it opens up on Barton Springs

if you waited that long you should have stuck around for the end. I enjoyed the wait, personally. It was like tailgaiting. We made a lot of friends and got hammered.

I work about a mile from both - previous advice is spot on, Franklin's brisket is just a tad, a tad, better than La BBQ (the pitmaster at La BBQ learned at Franklin). Ribs and pulled pork are comparable - but I think the sausage at La BBQ is much better. Typically the wait is a lot less at La BBQ but after SXSW (and even before to some extent) it blew up. On a weekday, I'd get there around 10:30am - opens at 11am.

Both are much better than Cooper's in Llano - which itself is good but not in the class of those two. Cooper's is opening a place at 2nd and Congress in Austin soon. Louis Mueller's is better than Cooper's IMO. Still not quite as good as the other two.

If both La BBQ and Franklin are crazy busy (Franklin will be) - try John Mueller's Meat Co. at east 6th and Perdenales, Mickelthwaite BBQ on the east side, or Blue Ox BBQ off east Riverside (in the Buzz Mill).

Been waiting around for this....seems like work stopped on it for a while, but I did see two huge smokers in the parking lot last week, so it must be getting close. Black's is the best of the Lockhart places at the moment.
