And good electric knife for cleaning fish. I've been making it work with my kitchen knives, but it's past time for me to get some good fish cleaning knives.

Keep in mind, I'm no OB baller.

I always use Dexter Russell knives with the white handle, Sani-Safe I think it's called, 8 or 9". They hold up good to abuse and don't cost that much, $20-$30, you might even get a sheath with it in the package.

I got one at academy for $15. It's 7 inches, comes with a sheath and sharpener. I think it's a rapala. It's worked fine.

You're in luck

go to walmart and get a cheap one or even two

The green Mr Twisters used to last longer, but they don't anymore.

eta: rapala filet knives are good for bass/trout etc, but the dexter russel is the way to go for reds and offshore fish

BONUS ROUND: you can pick up cheapies around thanksgiving for about $10 at walmarks (usually black and decker or westinghouse or whatever sticker they put on it. All made by the same chinese kids)

Yeah, those Dexters are great knives. Hold an edge really well. I hardly use an electric knife anymore because of them.

Green mr twister is all I've ever used. The one I have now is about 6 years old and going strong although it will be tested this summer more than ever.

I finally went to an electric knife and I will never go back. I put my fillet knife on the boat to cut bait.

If you burn one up, you burn one up. Go buy another for $24.99. That's why I call them "disposable"...

I've had my current one for 5 or 6 years myself though.

I'll probably go with this option for my electric knife for this reason.

How long do the blades last?

With the amount of fish I usually catch, mine should last forever

The blades are fine. Mostly guides in S. LA burn up the motor in them sawing on a bunch of redfish, or cleaning like 200 trout in a row non stop.

The key is to buy 2 mister twisters. When it starts feeling warm, switch knives before you burn it up. By the time the second knife is getting warm, the first one is usually cooled off again. Rotating the knives will make them both last longer.

Black and decker

Eta. I remember seeing guides with the trigger wrapped up with electric tape so they never shut down
