I think it's a little more than "due diligence in case he falls to 27." They may be looking into moving up if he's available at the right spot. We've never been afraid to move up and get the guy we want.

Don't forget the trade up possibility. Didja realize the Saints have traded up in the draft every year Payton has been here except '06?
#58 + #27 could get you up to #16
#91 + #27 could move ya up about 5 picks.
The 2nd is a tough hit to sacrifice. 3rd Rd is a lot easier. If lasting to #20 there are quite a few players I could see them jumping for. Depends a lot on how it shakes out. A mini-run on WRs or CBs could force it.

Guys fall every year. Gilbert is in that territory where he could fall to 27. I think just like the WRs could go in any order after Watkins, the CBs could go in any order. Some team may prefer Dennard, Fuller or Roby over Gilbert. You really never know. Im sure the Saints realize that and want to cover all their bases.
Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if Gilbert is towards the top of their "realistic" board.

Getting a cornerback isn't a necessity for us but I think Justin Gilbert might be one of the few talents in the draft worth trading up for and he would have a terrific role on this defense immediately.
