I'll leave this in its own thread. Tiger's record in the majors is impressive (still second of all time), but Tiger's greatness was never purely about his performance in majors. It was consistency, tournaments won, cuts made, holding the lowest scoring average of all time, sitting atop the rankings week after week, month after month, for years. Some new rookie coming in and matching one or two of his accomplishments at or near the age Tiger accomplished them is a poor metric.

Read it, and be in awe. LINK

Speith will give him a run for his money, but I can't see anyone surpassing Tigers early in his career achievements. But Speith will be big competition for him from here on out. This is Speiths first Masters. He just turned pro. The golf world needs to be on the lookout for a new star player.

Tiger won tournaments by an insane amount of strokes. That was what was so impressive. He didn't just win, he utterly dominated.

The 1997 Masters and even more so the 2000 US Open was absolutely incredible.

Way too early to call if Spieth will come anywhere close to Tiger. It's highly doubtful. Even with him showing so much promise as a 20 year old.

If any young guy is gonna get double digit majors, it's Rory.

Spieths playing harder competition at a younger age. Like the tiger nut huggers say when comparing jack and tiger.

This. Speith is legit and I think he'll be the next young star. But it will not be at the level that Tiger was. It's gonna be tough for anyone to ever top what he did at the start of his career

Had to start your own thread

And just to clear this up, I wasnt the 1 comparing Spieth to Tiger or anything like that. I just responded to someone saying "well its obvious hes not a closer. Hes no Tiger". Based off of what he did as a 20year old playing in his 1st Masters tournament.

Tiger was the most dominant golfer of all time. I dont know if anyone will ever be as dominant as long as Tiger was. Its ridiculous.

But saying Spieth isnt a closer because of what he did this weekend is just dumb.

It didn't matter who tiger was playing against. He was winning by 10 strokes

It's impossible to compare competition from different times.

Doesn't make the comparisons correct.

Says you? Tiger and Jack were separated by decades. When Tiger exploded in the early 2000s, people were bigger and stronger, with better equipment and training than when Jack started 50 years ago. There isn't nearly so big a difference between the early 2000s and now.
