Roku 3 or Roku streaming stick?

Look to get one or the other soon, and I'm not sure which will suit my needs more. I will be using it for Netflix, HBOGo, and Plex.
Are there any big differences between the two? The streaming stick is about $50, while the Roku 3 is $80 refurb.

I got the streaming stick this week and so far so good. The only problem is that I have Comcast and they think Roku is a competitor so there is no HBO Go app for Comcast service.

why would you need all 3?

Honestly don't.. I'm a tech nerd... Rarely use the appletv.. Chromecast for music streaming.. Roku for everything else
Eta: appletv best feature (screen mirror) is moot for me with pc tower always hooked to TV.

i was jw. i have apple tv and recently bought the chromecast to try it out and thought why not for $35. if google can fix their screen mirroring of the browser, itll easily be the best option out there. but right now its unusable for that feature unless its an "approved" app.

Is there a big difference between the 2 and 3?

Roku 3 streams Spotify and MOG, unless you're talking about streaming YouTube videos.

I have Roku 3 and love it.
I am not quite sure what the stream stick does. Is it like Roku 3, a stand alone device or do you have to send content from a pc to it?
I want another 3 for another TV and looked at the stick

I like the Roku 3 for the headphone jack in the remote control. It is nice for the times when my wife is on call so I don't disturb her.

2 still has a composite video jack. 3 only has HDMI. 3 also has a "more powerful processor" inside, but I can't say that I'd experienced a lack of power needed for anything I have used my 2xs for. the 1,2,3 series > 2hd/2xs/etc series based on the remote. The new series uses a WiFi based remote that's very responsive. The older series used a rather non-responsive bluetooth remote that always had connection issues for me. I use the (free) app on my phone/tablet more than the actual remote. Also, the 2 + 3 have a remote with a headphone jack, if that's appealing to you.
ETA: forgive me. The 2 also lacks usb/ethernet/microsd slots.

It's almost the same. There are a few key differences. Check the comparison page on their website. The stick lacks the remote with the headphone jack, motion control sensors, ethernet, usb, microsd, and it has a slower processor (still capable of 1080p).
It's advantage is that it is smaller than the Roku 3 and requires 1 wire instead of a minimum of 2. And I could be wrong, but I am fairly certain it can be powered off of most TV's USB port.

I got a Roku 3 for Christmas and love it. The headphone jack in the remote is nice when I'm up late and don't want to disturb my husband. We have a smart tv but I use the Roku mostly cause it's easier to navigate than the smart tv apps.

We have a smart. TV as well. Exclusively use Roku 3 for the channel variety.

the faster processor of the roku 3 makes scrolling through menus a lot quicker and cleaner. it also might be good for future proofing, as i think there are already some apps/channels that are only available on roku 3. its worth the extra $35 to get a refurb roku 3 over any other model.
