I work with a lady who at times was spending $200 a week on Candy Crush. She was so addicted.

WTF do you spend that kind of money on in a free game? Extra lives?

Companies stock went public and had an ipo priced at over $20 a share based almost entirely off that game.

Quite impressive for a "free" game

If it's a free game, I play it for free. NEVER put up $$$ to get through a level. That's damn stupid. I'd delete the game first.

The price per share is irrelevant, the number to know is that it valued at $7.1B. I wish I could short the piss out of this, it will turn out just like Zynga.

The same site says Clash of Clans is doing north of a million dollars daily revenue. It too is a free app with in-game purchases.

I've never played the game. Why is it so popular? From what I gather it's just a version of bejeweled, amirite?

I play it but have never paid for extra moves or helps. It takes three days to unlock a new level without paying but I can wait and save my $0.99. Tomorrow I get to play the second lock of three so I can get to Level 291.

I play Clash to pass the time inbetween luls at work, but shite I don't know how people spend money in that game - the only thing you can buy are gems and I rarely use them each person is given over 300 to start with.

Adjust your clock +24 hours, open candy crush. You now have 5 lives back. Change your time back to automatic and you're good.
I'm at 211, never paid or waited.

People are stupid.
Let's invent some easy, repetitive game with flashy, dazzling colors and spend $1 million in advertisements.
As long as the proles think it's a popular game to play, they'll empty their wallets into it.
