look for one with a higher amp-hours rating. the higher you go though (generally speaking), the more money you'll be looking at. definitely get a deep-cycle marine battery.

The best deep cycle battery is AGM. Group 24 would be fine for your setup. Cabelas has a very good one . They just had me on sale two weeks ago 50 bucks off I think. You missed that. There is a place by Jerry leequick stop east on greenwell springs road that sells em for 150. Do not buy a battery at Walmart or Kmart or target or SAMs etc. it will leave your arse pissed off when 7 months from now your troll motor dies on you. Spend the $$$ and get a good battery. Even plane old deep cycle should run 100 bucks for what you really need. Get what u pay for in this deal for sure

If you go with an expensive battery, sear diehard platinum. If you are going with a cheaper, regular battery, get one with the best warranty and from a store that is close to where you would need to exchange it, if needed. The cheaper ones are pretty much all the same, come out of just a few plants.

Yeah, like others stated deep cycle or agm, i was just referring to brands in general. The sears platinum is by far the best expensive battery for the dollar.

For that boat using just a 12v system a cheap walmart or academy battery is fine. Just be sure to always charge it immediately after using it and use a trickle charger. I put mine on a timer so it runs for only 30 min per day.

I always check autozone, they usually have marine batteries that people return saying there are bad for half the price on a new one.

I just thumbed through a Cabelas sale, they are putting their AGM batteries on sale tomorrow - april 21. 30% off which looks a little better than $50 off.

Not to hijack but thinking about putting AGM's in my bay boat. I have a 36v motor. Would put the 3 AGM on the trolling motor suspect I need the AGM 30? Also they will charge with my promaster onboard charger right?

On AGM and Gel cell, be sure you have the proper charging system for them. The old chargers will do the job, but it will shorten the life of the battery. Also - My opinion is that the AGM's and Gel cell's don't hold a charge significantly longer than a good lead acid of the same amp hour rating.

This is the one I use for my 30lb thrust trolling motor. I pretty much have the same set up as you. I carry two batteries (one is much smaller) with me just in case but I never have to use the smaller one. As another poster said earlier, try to charge it as soon as you get home. That helps.

ETA: This one is $99.00 at academy.

Call interstate batteries, ask if they have any blemished TM batteries. Usually run around $40-$50 and have lasted just as long as the AGMs IME.
