My SO says no we weren't "friends", I say we kind of were. So yes? Knew of each other for about two years. Met at a party and it took on a life of it's own

Yes, we were friends for about 4 years before we started dating. Married 14 years now.
Probably the only reason the relationship worked was because she new all my baggage and BS before we started dating. The friendship helped immensely.

We were friends for a few months before we started dating officially. But there was a connection there from the start. That was 18 years and 2 kids ago and she is sleeping next to me right now.

No. I was friends with my ex-husband for a year or so before we began dating. I actually began dating him because I thought he was a nice guy, a little unexciting maybe, but a decent person.
One divorce later, I met my husband, had our first date the next weekend, got engaged after eight weeks and married within a year, and we just celebrated our 26th anniversary.
