Friends for a while then best friends for about 4 months before we went on our first date. Slept in the same bed as friends, never messed around or anything.

Been together 9 years now married 5 of them.

ETA: We did the oh la la on our first date also.

See, I can never see the best friend to girlfriend transition.

It worked for us. Neither of us really pushed for it or anything. It got to a point that we were literally together everyday and we just decided to give a date a try. The date wasn't uncomfortable or anything, it was like we were hanging as usual.

It was all said and done as they say after that. There was never that weird period yhat people go through because we already knew what we needed to know about each other.

No. Total strangers when we met during college.

I remember looking at her one night, early on while dating, and thinking, "Wouldn't it be weird if this were the person I wound up marrying?"

Yes. I met my wife 4 years prior to dating her.

eta: We never were "best friends" before dating. We didn't hang out often but she always trusted me. I somehow managed to steer clear of friend zone.

I don't think this is possible. If it's the person you marry you had to have been attracted to them right off the bat and desired something with them even if you weren't acting on it at the time (AKA not really "just friends"). The only exception (that I can think of) would be like young, childhood friends that grew up and then dated/got married.

Great job on taking a few words out of my post.

I dont buy that everyone that was "friends" really had a thing for eachother = not really friends.

You can be friendly with someone you're attracted to and want to be with. That isn't my definition of friends. Maybe it's yours... dunno

Does it count if her brother has been my best friend since middle school?

Somebody you've never been attracted to ever and have never had a sexual thought about?

If that's the case i've never had a female friend in my life.

The SO and I were friends for about 3 years before we started dating. She actually dated one of my best friends for about a year during that time. Now we're Eskimo brothers.

Only part of what I said. From previous post:

Of course almost all guys would have some attraction to a good lookign friend (or sexual thought) but not desire something real with them like a relationship.
