The guy who had the gall to express his First Amendment rights and favor Prop 8 in California by donating $1,000 has just been scalped by some gay activists. After an OKCupid decision to boycott Mozilla, the recently appointed Brendan Eich just resigned under pressure.

Will he now be forced to walk through the streets in shame? Why not the stocks? The whole episode disgusts me – as it should disgust anyone interested in a tolerant and diverse society. If this is the gay rights movement today – hounding our opponents with a fanaticism more like the religious right than anyone else – then count me out. If we are about intimidating the free speech of others, we are no better than the anti-gay bullies who came before us.

Actually Andrew Sullivan is as bad as any anti-gay bully, he's a Cultural Left agitprop Bully. He as much as anybody, helped to build this climate by demonizing every day traditional views (like the one our historic first black President/Diety held 4 short years ago). He's a little late to this party to be taken seriously.

Sullivan was money 15 years ago. Since then he's gotten belligerently more shrill in his Leftist Orthodoxy. You cant gather all the timber and fetch the gas and then bitch that the fire is too hot.

I agree that Sullivan helped create this climate, but I'm still glad he's speaking out on the new McCarthyism (to quote Hugh Hewitt).

I agree with Andrew Sullivan.

The only thing is I have yet to see which major gay rights organization was calling for his resignation and was pushing for a boycott. I certainly didn't see anything from the HRC. I don't even think GLAAD (who really annoys me sometimes) was calling for this.

Do you know?

I think it was the Village People.

Like the insensitive ideologues who have villainized the working poor(Minimum wage earners) & lazy Union whiners:-); "He can always go work for another company"

Mr. Eich can always work for Hobby Lobby ,etc.... He's not entitled to this job.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Just remember for future discussion sugar, it was you who claimed it "good for the goose".

Not sure Toddy. I heard about it coming home from the office this afternoon.

I think you and I are in agreement on this. I want gays to have every right that straights have. But good Lord, if we've gotten to the point where dissenting views can't be freely expressed without fear of reprisal, we're in trouble. I grew up in the era where people understood that unpopular speech is the speech MOST in need of protection.

I just checked and NO gay rights organization was calling for his resignation or a boycott of Mozilla. Certainly no credible organization. And Firfox just tweeted that is was Eich's decision to step down . No one "forced" him to.

Ironically, the ONLY gay centered group that is calling for a boycott of Mozilla is the anti-gay marriage group, The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) which announced the organization of a boycott today.

It appears to me that gay rights organizations are being unfairly criticized and accused of something they DID NOT DO.
