Now that you can get 60w 'soft white' CREE bulbs for around $8/bulb on ebay, is it time to make the jump?

I fricking hate CFL and looking at the energy savings (about $1/year) to run these bulbs vs $8, they pay for themselves pretty quick.

Lots of websites are going crazy over the CREE bulbs based on how close to incadescent they are, they are dimmable and they're under $10, they are supposed to last 22 year and there's a TEN YEAR warranty if the bulb dies.

thoughts?

seems a fella could drop his electric bill pretty well if they swap these all around the house.

I got privy to their flashlights a couple years ago. Solid product for the money.

But yeah, you might as well go ahead and make the switch. It's where everything is headed. Before long, you won't be able to buy a standard light bulb anymore anyway.

Provided you have an LED dimmer installed, right?

CREE is a great company. I put one of their LED conversion bulbs in my Surefire G2 several years ago. A lot brighter and the batteries last much longer now. And I think the normal LED bulb in another flashlight I have was made by CREE.

Those bulbs will save you so much money, you'll find some elderly Eastern European woman, and swing her around in circles due to your excitement from those energy bill savings.

I think they work with standard incandescent dimmers.

I can't remember. It wasn't much. This was like 5 years ago. They probably have much better out now. I just bought an LED lenser off of woot a few months ago and I use it more than the surefire. I leave the surefire in my jeep. And a couple spare batteries. I have the G2 that was like 65 lumens. I think the LED upgrade pushed it to like 90 or 100 lumens.

They work with standard dimmers as well.

My electricity bill dropped by $200 a month making the switch.

Your wife must suck really bad at turning off the lights. What's the deal with that?

Big house with a lot of lights. Electric bill used to run $600 a month now its only $400 thanks to switching over to all LEDs. I spent over $4500 in LED lights.

Still doesn't make sense unless your house is lit up like a christmas tree 24/7. No way lighting should be 1/3 of your bill. You need to compare bills year over year, not month-to-month. Really you should compare kWh usage instead of dollars.

I just bought one of those exact bulbs at Home Depot for $10. The light is decent, and it's silent. That ridgy ring is a heatsink and gets hot as hell, but the weird thing is that the bulb feels gummy to the touch. They do that on purpose as a safety feature for when you drop and break the glass. 10 year warranty, FWIW.

I love the TCP BR30s I found at Sam's a feew months ago for $25 per pair. I bought 3 packs to replace the lights in my kitchen.

How long do them things last? I bought several cfl bulbs that crapped out within a month or two. I bought some GE bulbs (4pack) and not one lasted longer than 5 months. GE gave me another 4pack and none lasted longer than 4 months
